Cait stood at the window in the medical conference room, looking at the view of the colony. It wasn’t the most pleasant of views as she could see the slums K`y had been talking about. She didn’t think this meeting was going to be terribly pleasant either. It was time to get this facility up to par while keeping the civilian staff happy and functioning. There just wasn’t enough Starfleet personnel to cover all positions and she didn’t want it that way anyway. It would just be one more thing that would fuel the fire of resentment and strife. Cait turned with a sigh, moving to stand in front of the chair at the head of the table to wait for the others to make their way to the meeting.

Kat had just handed off her PADD to one of the techs then collected  another spotting the reminder about an important meeting in the conference room. She gave last minute instructions before heading to the conference room herself. Kat sauntered into the room glancing over at the tiny doctor as she looked out the window. "Hello Cait..." she said simply as she moved to the seat near the head of the table.

“Hey, Kat. How are you settling in?” Cait settled into her chair, carefully not leaning back. For once, she wasn’t sporting her mego mug of coffee.

Kat gave Cait a smile as she sat down and settled into her own chair."I guess I'm settling in okay... other than I'm finding it too quiet." she explained. "I never thought I would miss the familiar hum of the Ridge." she added glancing towards the other seats at the table. "So...am I to guess that this little meeting is about defining our assignments here?" she asked.

“You got it on the first go. Watch that chair. I’ve been dumped once already.” Caitlooked down at the PADD in front of her. “The situation here is pretty delicate between Starfleet and the civilian population, so I’ll be using the best of the civilian doctors as department heads as well.”

At that moment, Daniel walked in. He looked like hell, with his hair out of place and baggy eyes. Sporting a large mug of coffee, he walked towards a seat, cautious and wary to sit in it. "Hello, everybody. I hope everyone's fairings better than I am" he said with alight chuckle.

Kat steadied herself in her chair a little wary of being dumped on the floor. " thanks for the heads up on the chair. " she said giving a nod to Cait. " Sounds like a good plan so far." she said as  doctor Monroe entered the room. "Hello Daniel..." she turned carefully in the chair then suddenly felt it give way dumping her on the floor in an unflattering heap. "ouch.... and that bruise was just starting to get better." she said softly as she moved back into the chair.

Cait slid out of her chair and gave Kat a hand up. “Hello, Daniel. Excuse me for saying so but you look like hell. What happened?” She carefully retook her own seat before looking at both doctors. “I asked you two to be here a little early than the others since we need to talk about a few things and I wanted it done before the others arrive. Make sure we’re split up at the table. I don’t want this to look like us against them.” Cait rubbed her eyes. “There’s apparently been way to much of that feeling here before we arrived.

"Thanks Cait." Kat said as she accepted the help up off the floor and the listened to what Cait had to say while Daniel took his seat. She hadn't had much of a chance to fully take in the new assignment though she did have plans to maybe step out with Reed.

Daniel took his seat with upmost caution, attempting to avoid a spill out. Answering Caits question, Daniel took a large gulp of his coffee. " A very rough night. I'd rather not talk about it, ma'am" he said from the other side of the conference room. "and I've definitely noticed some hostility from the civilians. And that's putting it mildly"

“I’m afraid this is one time I must insist on hearing the details, Daniel, especially if it might involve the civilians. I’ve already walked into one bar fight involving one of our officers and several large civilians. Commander Toby Blake has said if you walk into a public place, a bar, eatery, or whatever and you’re refused service, you are not to push matters. Simply smile, say of course, and leave.”

Daniel nodded. "Understood, commander. It was nothing to do with a public place or service. I couldn't get a damn minutes worth of sleep. Tossing and turning, all the civilians yelling, I honestly almost went insane" he said, combing his hands through his hair frustratedly.

“Let’s make sure you’re in the quarters assigned for Starfleet personnel. They aren’t what we’re used too but they aren’t terribly noisy.” She made a notation on a PADD kept close to hand.

Cait rubbed her tired eyes. “This situation is so different from what we usually experience when coming in to help a new colony. They really truly believe we don’t give a damn about them and are only here for the money. We need to show them it’s not so and in ways they won’t feel beholden to us or that we’re rubbing our altruism in their faces. Have either of you seen the slum districts yet? If not, look out that window  there. It’ll shock you for certain. I know you’ve both seen the condition of the inhabitants here. This facility is the ~only~ hospital on the planet so far and it’s not up to code nor is it stocked or staffed appropriately. The medical replicators are a joke and I really don’t trust them to even produce a decent bandage, let alone the medications we’ll need. There is a spare on board the Vimyridge and I’ll see if we can’t just requisition that puppy for here before the ship leaves for repairs.”

“Kat..” Cait turned to look at the woman. “You’ll be directing the partum, post-partum, and labor/delivery department. It really doesn’t seem all that busy to be honest…again, that trust issue. I also want you working with..” Cait checked her PADD. “ a Doctor Sventhoronson, head of surgery. You’ll be under him but I want you seeing if he’s got what it takes or if he’ll need replacing in the very near future. That will only be part time. Your department of course comes first and foremost.”

Kat focused her green eyes on the tiny doctor while she listened to the details of her new assignment a bit surprised at the position. Kat's brows furrowed a bit as she let the news sink in and wondering if she would have too much idle time between the two assignments. "Yes Ma'am." she said simply acknowledging the orders.

Cait turned to Monroe. “Daniel, I would like you take charge of the ER. I’m not assigning you a secondary position because I think you’ll be rather busy all things considered.”

Daniel nodded his head. "Understood, commander."

“ If there’s a crisis, I will of course be available to do whatever’s needed. Now, as to what I’ll be doing aside from administration.” The expression on the little doctor’s face as the word administration was said would probably make a cat laugh. “Four hours at least three times a week I’ll be staffing a free clinic down in the miner’s habitation and  where ever else its needed. If you two wish to assist in your off time, I would not turn you away. Also, don’t be surprised if people expect to pay for their medical care and seem reluctant to do what’s needed for their health. Make it clear. This is a Starfleet facility and we do not charge our fellow citizens for the medical care they need.” Cait looked at her colleagues and sighed. “This is going to be the toughest assignment we’ve ever taken on. Probably the most thankless one too. Assess your department staff and let me know who is and isn’t up to par. Those that wish to keep their jobs and improve their skills, will get what training they need. Those that don’t, will not be allowed to assist with patient care.”

The door to the conference room opened and the rest medical staff asked to the meeting filed in. Cait greeted them with all with a smile. “Good morning. Thank you all for taking time out what I know is a very busy schedule. Please take a seat and we’ll get started.”
