"Excuse me, Excuse me... Doctor?" the Betazoid female enquired of the busy
doctor. Even though the majority of the stricken were treated, the medical
facility was still quite busy. But it was in a lull as much as one could
hope.
Kat reached up and rubbed very tired eyes after having spent the past days
working nearly non-stop since arriving to her new assignment. She turned to
greet the woman "Yes?.." she said turning her attention away from the PADD
she'd been focusing on making a few notations on her patients.
"I'm sorry to disturb you, I have a ... patient... that does need to be
seen, but he won't allow himself to come to the medical facility because he
states that you all have too much to worry about rather than an ol'
demi-cardassian that has allowed himself to get a common cold'." her voice
changed in such a manner that seemed to mimic her husband's voice, without
the authority that most come to expect. Changing back to her normal tone
Adelle continued "besides, the common cold is apparently meant to have been
cured?"
"You're not disturbing me" Kat responded raising a brow at the woman's
words thinking on them for a moment particularly at the mention of a
demi-cardassian. "It seems things have settled down a bit here....so he need
not worry about me being too busy." she explained after listening to the
woman's description of the 'patient' in question. "I see..." she said
handing off the PADD to one of the techs whispering instructions for them to
monitor her patients while she makes a house call.
"Well anyway, when you find the time, he definitely needs to be seen. I do
know you are busy but he's all terribly 'man-flu' about it and making it
bigger than it really is, so I along with others that count on him are
having trouble while he moans." Her tone was sweet, soft and pleasant but it
did make evident a sharp wit. Someone that could keep up with her husband.
Adelle's milk coffee skin was quite a contrast to the child that hid at her
leg who was more like her father's skin colour. But nonetheless, you could
not mistake the child as being from the mother.
Kat had glanced to the child at the woman's leg before dismissing the tech
to go about her duties. "I have some time now...if it's okay." she said as
she motioned for another tech to bring her a med kit.
Adelle bent down to pick Alison up and winced slightly, it appeared that
both parents were ones to hide injury or illness due to being busy. But
that is all that was noticed of it and Adelle courteously bid farewell took
her child and left the facility.
-- some time later --
"I told you I didn't need to see anyone, there is a lot of things I am
trying to organize here. Several thousand requisitions, people in dire need
of basic shelter and food supplies... it's just a bit of the flu okay?" the
undertone was aggressive, but at the same time the voice was less agitated.
He knew his wife was right; Vin was shaking due to the up and down
temperatures his body was experiencing. However work must go on... and
there were the miners. Every opportunity was being given to them, and
yet... Vin needed to talk to Saladin, but he was unreachable at the moment.
Seeing Katerina out the door while Vin pushed through his illness and tried
to continue working, Adelle approached her. "Welcome, he's obviously going
to be unco-operative but, heh... he'll see you now." Adelle looked back at
her husband as if deciding something "Yes, no time like the present. But
you may not be able to drag him away from his work."
Kat smirked a bit as she caught a glimpse of her former Captain while
waiting outside the door. "Somehow that doesn't surprise me.." she said with
a nod before straightening her tunic and stepping into the room. She slowly
walked over to where the demi-cardassian was seated pausing her steps to
stand before him at attention. A lot had changed since Katerina last saw the
man, she had lost her husband, had her life threatened by a crazed hired
mercenary and gained a few pips on her collar in the process. "I see things
haven't changed much........or have they captain?" she inquired smiling
warmly as she watched him closely noticing something wasn't quite right
about the man. "Someone told me you haven't been feeling well.........it
would seem that they thought enough of you to request a house call." she
stated. Her reason for the visit would be two fold, one social the other
more medical in attending to the man's illness.
For a mere moment Vin had not recognized the Doctor before him, he was in
another world going through all the work piled up before him. "This place
is a mess" he muttered before starting with a hacking cough. There was
phlegm in his throat he could not cough up, at least for a while. Finally
as his coughing subsided he finally noted Katerina. "Oh Doctor Wilkinson,
um... err. Yes that was my wife, Adelle. As for my health, I am... able to
work." Vin didn't want to condemn himself, the last time he said to a
Doctor that he was going to be fine, just give him the hypo, he ended up in
hospital for two days. A normal illness that just decided to go wildly out
of control.
Kat gave a nod. "Nice to see you've settled down ...." she said with a smile
before glancing away as she was briefly reminded of Thomas and how happy
they had once been. She moved a little closer to where the man was seated
and set the medical kit she'd brought with her on his desk. She removed the
medical tricorder and began to run a few scans studying them intently as she
visited.
Continuing to work whilst the Doctor administered to him, Vin spoke. Partly
because his wife said as a male he could not multitask, partly to see how
one of the first Officers under his command on the Scylax was going. "So
Katerina, a few pips. I am guessing a few successful challenges to achieve
those pips in this short amount of time." Adelle was right, Vin was finding
himself losing his concentration. One of the tasks had to go and that was
the work, so he focused on letting the doctor take his vitals whilst he
continued conversation. He loved his wife but he didn't like it when she
was right.
Kat nodded again. "Yes I suppose you could say that." she said speaking of
the pips. "I was placed in charge of an away mission that didn't go too
well." she explained while she continued to scan after making a minor
adjustment to the tricorder. "The Lieutenant that had assisted me thought I
leaned too heavily on him for command support.... made me feel like I wasn't
quite ready for the challenges of command." she continued as she examined
him. "I can say that Thomas would have been proud." she added speaking of
her late husband.
"Before I forget, can you remind me to research a better place for a meeting
later?" the thought was definitely errant, but that is how the Captain's
mind worked. A multitude of ideas, puzzles, solutions and thoughts spinning
around and just every so often he would pluck in his brain and pull one of
them out to begin the reality. He shook for no reason in particular, it
wasn't cold but he did feel like someone just walked over his grave. With
that thought Vin's brain was off on a tangent again wondering exactly what
that phrase really meant. "So doc, what's the prognosis?"
Kat studied the scan results for a moment. "Sir?" she questioned "I....I
suppose I could ask around about a meeting place." she replied rather
confused. "As for my prognosis captain......... you'll be fine given you
follow doctor's orders." she said. "In addition to an antibiotic
boost......I strongly recommend you drink plenty of fluids and above all get
rest." she said as she prepped the hypospray. She carefully pressed the
instrument to his neck. "If for some reason there is no improvement by all
means make it a point to follow up with either myself or doctors Blake and
or Monroe." she instructed placing the hypo back in the kit.
"Nope, no bedrest. But I will promise to 'try' and take it easy." For Vin
taking it easy just meant that he had to delegate more. He'd have to get
really used to the people under his command, so he could trust them and pass
the tasks he felt that they would be able to be handle. Yes, tasks being
able to be handled. The brain focussed on the few Chiefs of Staff he was
firm on. They were all Commanders therefore he would leave them to command
their respective sections. He needed that meeting soon. "Hope that things
ease up for you at the hospital and you get a moment to go out and enjoy
some of the scenery. Despite the actual living conditions, the nature that
surrounds us is quite beautiful."
"We have our work cut out for us....but it's nothing we can't handle." Kat
said with a smile. "As soon as I get a chance I'll be sure to take in the
scenery." she added reassuringly. "It's definitely good to see you again
Captain." Kat gave a nod before she picked up the kit and started to leave.
Kat would give instructions to Adelle on her way out.
