Gaia pushed and pulled at the dough in front of her. It felt too loose, and yet not moist enough. “Maia, I don’t think that this environment is good for our pasta.” The Chef then kneaded the dough a bit more, chopped it into small sections covered it up so it would rest a bit and pulled what she had set aside closer to her and started to roll out the pasta into thin roundish flat sections.

Gaia started to hum softly as she cut the pasta into long lengths, to make a spaghetti type pasta for tonight’s dinner. “Do we need anything other than Spaghetti tonight?” the Chef asked “… and someone check on the marble rye that is in the oven, it should be done shortly.” Her twin echoed, their voices were similar and yet different. Maia’s was tad higher in tine then Gaia’s.

After the pasta Gaia moved over to where Maia was pulling vegetables out of the sink and giving them a big shake before stacking them onto a tray. Gaia grabbed the huge tray of vegetables and moved it to a long steel table. The chef placed a cutting board down and grabbed a knife and started to peel one root after another. “Maia, when do you think you’ll be headed towards home?”

Maia finished the drainage of the remainder of the rest of the vegetables. She moved across from her blonde twin, her dark hair was tied back. “I was thinking next week some time, that is if you’ve healed enough and think you can handle this load mostly by yourself.” The quiet and yet deft sound of a knife started to click against a cutting board. “Why are you still so short staffed?”

“Because, these people do not feel inclined to help out. They want to mine for whatever it is they are mining for, it has precedence over all else.” Gaia replied as she worked skins, she tried to make as long as she could one continuous string of skin.

“That is not helping you stay in business Gaia.” Maia said a bit dryly.

“I know, but what do I do?” Gaia glanced up at her twin “I’ve hired one new girl this morning. Quartezz is undoubtedly scaring the day lights out of her now, even as we speak. Jomo started last week and is doing the best that he can with his language barriers.”

 “Hmmm” Maia replied

Gaia paused her peeling “Well, what do you think I should do? If... I leave. Grandfather will just send one of his lackeys to do this. And then my one opportunity to show him what I can do will be gone. I will not get a chance like this again. I’m sorry but I’ve not given up yet.” Gaia started to peel some more. “I knew it wouldn’t be easy, I just didn’t think it would be this hard.” The dark blonde raised her hand ans rubbed her forehead with the back of it, to scratch an itch.

“Gaia you barely sleep and I don’t think you eat anything unless I make you stop.” Maia said accusingly  in between chops. Maia stopped for a moment and then said thoughtfully “Maybe I should stay longer.” The twins both sighed softly, there was much to do and so little time.
