Botanical Lab. She checked to make sure her hair was neatly tied back
in a pony tail and walked over.?When she got there she entered and
looked around it was a restful area some plants were already there.
Kyla always liked Bot Labs, it was more natural to her to find plants
in botanical labs than growing wildly...
Kylee took a deep breath as she stared at the collection of plants and
animals, each still in their two separate shipments, one from the
Orion, another from a private shipment. She furrowed her brow, her
head turning slightly as someone entered. "Lab's not open yet.." she
said, her body turning fully to face the woman, studying her uniform.
Kyla looked at the woman who addressed her. "I'm Crewman First Class
Kyla E. Mashima," she saluted noticing the Lieutenant insignia on the
collar, "Lieutenant, sir. I was requested to report here."
Kylee nodded slowly, brow arching at the salute. "Umm.. no need for
that, Crewman Mashima," she said, smirking slightly. "And yes.. you
were requested here to assist in setting up the basics for the myriad
of environments that we need to prepare before we get the plants in
the ground."
Kyla nodded, "Yes sir." She smiled. She guessed her geology studies
were likely what canidated her for this one. "Where shall I start?"
"Well.. first.. I have several environments I plan to set up, but I am
unsure of exactly which of the plants and animals and such have
arrived for which. So, first I need to sort everything out, and
determine what I need to have completed first. I really need to know
how much of the aquatic items have arrived," Kylee said. "And please..
none of the sir stuff.. Lt or Kylee.. but not sir.."
Kyla nodded. It was one of those officers. "Yes, Lieutenant." She
doubted she could bring herself to call an officer by first name. "Is
there a manifest?" She looked around for a PADD that would have the
manifest. "I could check in the manifest."
"The manifest for shipment from the Orion is with the plants. Those
are just the edible garden plants though, so they should be fairly
easy to sort. Just need to work out light and water needs for those,"
Kylee said. "The other shipment manifest is sitting with the plants.
Oh.. be careful near the Orion shipment.. has a biting plant over
there," she warned.
Kyla nodded and walked over and picked up the first manifest PADD and
began checking in the shipment. She relaxed and just let the simple
task occupy her for the time being. ?She got over to the Orion
shipment the Lieutenant had mentioned. She noted the biting plant and
tried her best to avoid it, but someone had set the manifest right
near the plants. Kyla looked around a bit for the special gardening
gloves and didn't see them. "Are there gloves for handling these
around here, Lieutenant?" she asked.
Kylee moves over to the other shipment to begin sorting it out, first
separating the animals and bugs from the plants. She glanced over her
shoulder as she heard Kyla, seeing her near the plant. "Umm.. no..
give me a second.." she said, glancing around before moving to grab a
small piece of wood and walked over to the plant. "Best way to handle
it.. get it to bite on something else and then carry it," she said,
holding the wood out for the plant.
"i think they would make a meal of that manifest if we don't rescue
it, Lieutenant," she frowned indicating the PADD nearby.
Kylee wiggled the wood in front of the plant until it snapped out,
biting down. "Yes, well not a problem now. Go ahead and grab the PADD
now. Once your clear, I'll move this guy over by himself, with a
warning to stay back from it," she said.
Kyla fished the PADD out and checked it over. "It seems okay." She
frowned over the manifest list. "Thank you Lieutenant I do not think I
could have handled both the plant and the PADD." She tried to smile.
Kylee grunted as she tugged on the piece of wood. "You're welcome..
this guy almost bit me before, want to make sure no one else does,"
she said, chuckling softly as she carried the plant over to an empty
table. "Can you look around and find a small grey bag near where the
plant had been? Need that to get the wood away from it."
Kyla looked around where the plant was sitting. "Here it is," she said
half to herself and brought it out.
Kylee reached out to take the bag, opening it up and pulling out a
small bottle. She took a deep breath, holding it as she held the
bottle up to the plant. As she opened it, the faint whiff of decaying
creature began to waft out. The plant shook and opened it's mouth,
letting the wood go, before closing up tightly. She closed the bottle
quickly, backing away quickly before exhaling, taking a deep breath
again, her nose wrinkling. "Hate the thing.. but.. it's actually a
rather unique specimen."
Kyla nodded looking at the plant eat. "Yes it is always the strangest
things that have the most interesting properties." She finished
checking in the manifest. "It looks like most of this stuff is in."
Kylee nodded as she looked over to the plant. "Yes, well.. he will be
set up away from the public. I got it for the very sweet berries it
puts out, but I don't need civilians complaining to me about fingers
lost because they were stupid," she said. "The Orion shipment should
be complete for the edible garden.. the other environments are what
will not be complete.. at least in regards to the really rare items."
Kyla nodded. "Do you need help setting up the environmental settings?"
She looked around since she had checked everything in
"Actually.. need to get the other needs added in first.. like water,
light, as well as figuring out the layout fully. Also need to build up
the tunnel for the cave environment.. Though, you should probably
discuss it with Ensign vanBuren," Kylee said.
Kyla felt her smile slip at the mention of the cave environment.
"Whatever needs doing, Lieutenant." she said trying to fix her smile
back on her face.
Kylee stared at Kyla, her brow arching. "Or not... find whatever you
want to do.. I'll take all the jobs neither you or Jackson seem to
want to do, and you can.." she paused, taking a deep breath and
exhaling slowly. "Never mind.. just.. help lay out the water lines and
hunt me down if needed."
"Yes, Lieutenant," Kyla nodded and headed off to set up the water.
