After his meetings with Gates and Goodyear, Amadeus needed to clear his
head. He had just convinced two of the most powerful businessmen in
this sector to sign a major contract and it had been entirely of his
own initiative. Not bad for a days work.
He had been given a rather nicely adorned apartment in Billiton HQ as
part of his compensation for his work. The apartment was not exactly
the height of luxury but is was comfortable and had its own replicator.
On this planet that was rare.
Of course if luxury and comfort had been his primary concern he would
have stayed on Earth. Still, he had it better than most of the people
who lived on the world by far. Even Starfleet had to limit their
replicator use, at least according to popular rumor. Thankfully
Billiton had brought some of its own energy sources.
He carefully removed his coat and hung it up before opening a bottle of
bourbon that Billiton had supplied and ordereing a glass of ice from
the replicator. He was still working on the cigar that he had lit in
Chip's office as he poured the class about a quarter of the way full.
Maybe two shots worth.
He set the bourbon aside and walked over to a computer display.
"Computer, forward Mister Goodyear folder 'Contract 1131ca' and open a
subspace connection with Ferenginar Stock Exchange. I want to see
precious metal futures. Three months out, six months out, one year,
five years and ten years. Also collect information on Federation,
Klingon, Cardassian, and Ferengi constructions projects. Including ship
building."
He sat down on a large plush couch as a holographic display began to
project the information into the air in front of him. "And some music,
something from one of my playlist by a Caradassian composer." A soft
melody he had known since childhood began to fill the air as he took a
sip of his drink and looked over the information displayed before him.
Things where looking up. It seemed to be a boom time in starship
construction for both the Federation and Klingon Empire, no doubt
replacing their losses from the Xeleucian War. But this meant the boom
was temporary, a bubble that would burst when things slowed down.
Still, as the saying went, make hey while the sun shines.
"Computer, take twenty percent of the liquid assets available in
Portfolio Alpha and purchase equal parts one year duranium, tritanium
and dilithium. Throw the remainder into tritanium. Then take fifteen
percent of the assets in Portfolios Beta and Gamma and purchase equal
parts rodinium and toranium futures. One year also." Once the computer
beeped its confirmation he shut off the display and sat back to relax.
There was of course the temptation to purchase some stock in Drake
Enterprises but he knew better. It was blatant insider trading and
while he had some ideas on how to get around it he did not want to risk
attracting any sort of negative attention. Besides, he could wait. If
there was one virtue he had in abundance it was patience.
The coming weeks would be filled with meetings, negotiation sessions,
and tedious PADD work. Forms to be filled, contracts to be written,
rewritten, deleted and written again. But in the end the payoff would
male it all worth it. Yes, he would bide his time before making any big
moves. Both in the markets and his business dealings on Paradise IV.
