"Welcome K'ylana" he spoke as he saw the silhouette form against his
doorway, years didn't change her silhouette from obvious recognition but it
appeared the 'family/good-life' had affected him. Finding himself somewhat
self conscious he shifted his uniform to its best fit. Yes, Vin was not the
muscular imposing man he once was three years ago, he was still imposing,
but not muscular much anymore. More cuddly? Well his wife thought so.
Vilqa stood, arms crossed over her chest as she leaned against the framing.
She had stood there silently a few moments as she observed the male before
her. It had been at minimum two years since she last was face to face with
Dharmajiva and while parts of her wanted to tear him apart limb to limb the
professional side of her won over the desire. "Vincent," she finally said
with firm softness, "I must say this is the last place I was expecting to be
and you certainly the last person I expected to be with."
"Last place?" the signature quizzical expression etched itself on the
demi-cardassian's face. "And... last person? Really it appears that you and
I have had our fates entwined since you were the XO on the ... dear god, a
lifetime and a half ago... but I will explain that later." scratching his
head Vin lost himself in thought for moments. "Back to you though, so you
weren't told that you were coming here for assistance in making Federation
presence and Starfleet felt throughout the sector?..."
He motioned for K`y to approach the table as he continued ". Leading into
the movement of this planet to governance under the 14th Fleet?" The
thoughts of the demi-cardassian turned to worry as he remembered what he
could of his old hierarchy in the 14th. "What is Rear Admiral Luta not
giving much information to his Captains anymore." Vin had come to know Luta
as a friend and not only a boss. Not having him giving all the information
possible to his Captains so that they could make their best decisions was
out of character. Worry gave way to guilt. He hadn't contacted Luta in
years... he should have kept in touch. But life was so... different.
Dharmajiva's incessant blabber through K`ylana off, enough so that she
shifted her brow upward to make her ridges more apparent, "My orders were
not from Luta," she stated simply, "my vessel is being grounded for a full
overhaul," she then added as an excuse for being land-locked. "The Ridge
will be available for us for 30 days then she will move on and be space
docked for months."
Nodding in acknowledgement to the situation bringing his focus back to the
situation at hand Vin suddenly broke the stride of his mental cogs in alarm
"Erinys! that wa..." he stopped himself when he noticed the grim expression
of K'ylana.
K`ylana's change of demeanour and expression changed before Vin could even
finish the vessel's name. The nightmares from the final days of the vessel's
existence and the betrayal she still felt from the former Captain still
haunted her nightmares.
"Well let's not continue that chain of thought and get to the situation at
hand." Vin started organising his PADDs and papers on the table that was
obviously oversized for the room it was in. Yes, true to form Vin was one
of the few people that still used paper in organising his thoughts.
Something about the permanence, and the way he was brought up. Books were to
be respected, literature in all its forms was an art to itself. The sorting
allowed K'ylana to look over Vin's shoulder, something he did not hide from
his fellow Captain.
There was a myriad of plans, from creation of more spheres and the thinning
of the ozone layer over a number of years with CFCs to warm the planet.
There was also the warming of the core and how this was to tie in with the
atmosphere in such a way that it would finish earlier but timing was
critical. Other plans and schematics for the creation of either a space
station or shipyards in orbit, and predicted spatial anomalies including the
possibility of a geodesic fold occurring soon. The was a lot of potential
problems in this planet, but that is why Vin was chosen for this mission. A
scientist, a puzzle solver, was his nature, and he was obviously now at play
in his environment.
To be continued.
