Please join the Paradise Divers as we welcome Bob Michelson, who will be giving a slideshow on marine fish identification to prepare us for the upcoming Great American Fish Count.  http://www.neadc.org/gafc/2012_GAFC_final.pdf  Can’t make it to the Fish Count, but would like to know more about what you see on your dives?  Join us!

Participants of this 1 1/2 hour workshop will learn how to use the REEF Environmental Education Foundation’s newly revised Northeast Fish Identification Program.  Created with funding from The Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, and The Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF), this photography-based curriculum teaches how to identify 56 species of local finfish by using photography as the teaching tool.  The program shows how to identify these creatures by using body shape, size, fin structure and location, body markings, coloration and habitat as identification keys.  Memory clues are used in aiding to make this learning experience fun for SCUBA divers and snorkelers of all skill levels, as well as teachers and students from elementary through college level.

Tuesday, June 26,6:30-8:00 at Luther Bonney Hall (USM Portland Campus).  Bring dinner if you’d like. Cost is $5 per person to cover course materials.

Parking is in the Parking Garage, and the garage is connected directly to Luther Bonney via the skybridge. Both Luther Bonney Hall and the Garage have elevators if someone has mobility issues.  Here is the link to the directions to the Portland campus. http://usm.maine.edu/sites/default/files/About%20USM/portland_map_color_locator.pdf  Parking is in building #36 on this map. Luther Bonney Hall is the building marked #33. The entrance to the parking garage is off Surrenden St, so if people use GPS to get to the campus they can use the corner of Bedford St and Surrenden St. as a landmark.
