I wanted to make sure you saw Jon’s email from yesterday about Marni von Wilpert, who is running to defeat a MAGA Republican in a critical U.S. House race.

Von Wilpert is dedicated to public service. She has served in the Peace Corps, founded a legal clinic, and worked as a civil prosecutor. She’s also worked in Congress, as counsel on the House Education and Labor Committee, where she helped write the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act to strengthen workers’ rights.

Meanwhile, as county commissioner, von Wilpert’s opponent voted against using reserve funds to keep people on their Medicaid benefits after Congressional Republicans passed massive cuts.

Instead of a MAGA Republican who doesn’t bat an eye at people being kicked off of Medicaid, we need Marni von Wilpert, an up and coming Social Security champion who will fight for our earned benefits.

Marni von Wilpert is one of my favorite up and coming Social Security champions. Von Wilpert is running for the U.S. House in California’s 48th district on a promise to “stand up to protect Social Security, oppose any cuts or privatization, and ensure the program is strengthened for current and future retirees.”

The incumbent Republican in the 48th district is retiring, which makes it a great opportunity to pick up a seat. Every potential pick-up is critical as Democrats seek to take back control of the U.S. House this November, which would give them far more power to stop Donald Trump’s attacks on our earned benefits.

Von Wilpert’s opponent, Jim Desmond, is a MAGA Republican who is enthusiastically endorsed by Trump. As county supervisor, Desmond voted against using reserve funds to keep people on their Medicaid benefits after Congressional Republicans passed massive cuts. Meanwhile, he spent $240,000 in taxpayer dollars on furniture for his office.

When Desmond was asked about gas prices, which have gotten as high as $6 in San Diego, he responded that they were a necessary sacrifice for Donald Trump’s war with Iran: “No pain, no gain.”

Marni von Wilpert stands with working people and seniors, and she will always fight for our hard-earned benefits. Jim Desmond stands with Donald Trump and billionaires.
