NARAL Pro-Choice America is now Reproductive Freedom for All. Our name may be new, but our mission of protecting and expanding reproductive freedom remains the same.
Breaking news: A federal judge has gutted access to mifepristone, an abortion pill.
This is a nationwide ruling. It means that everyone, no matter if abortion is protected where you live, has to go in-person to a clinic, hospital, or medical office in order to obtain mifepristone.
This creates a slew of unnecessary barriers that will impact abortion access for millions of people across the country.
Anti-abortion extremists have weaponized this federal lawsuit to restrict abortion access—without needing Congress to pass a bill.
Mifepristone is used in the majority of all abortion care in the United States, and one in four abortions are provided via telehealth. Anti-abortion extremists have been targeting mifepristone for this exact reason—and now they've made it harder for people to access the medications they need for their health care.
Mifepristone is also commonly used for miscarriage care. This decision has nothing to do with science or caring for pregnant people. It's an outright attack on us and our healthcare.
If you or someone you love needs abortion or miscarriage care, there are options.
We have resources based on where you live for abortion providers, information and advice, abortion funds, legal advocacy, and more.
Requiring people to get mifepristone in person with a provider will heavily burden those that live in states with abortion bans, forcing them to travel out of state to access any method of abortion care—medication abortion or an in-clinic procedure.
And for people in states where abortion is protected, access is still impacted—requiring them to go in-person to obtain mifepristone. This decision makes it even harder for people in rural areas, people who are already parents, and others to access care.
Our work does not stop despite this restriction to abortion access. We are always fighting tooth and nail to ensure everybody that needs an abortion can access one.
More soon,
Reproductive Freedom for All
