As you've probably heard, last Thursday, an attacker rammed his car into Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan, with the intent to do great damage and kill people.
Temple Israel is a place I know well. Without the bravery of private security, first responders, and law enforcement who put themselves at risk, this attack would have been so much worse.
Of course, the greater Jewish community in Michigan is still reeling. And it's been incredible to watch Michiganders do what we do best in response. Neighbors and organizations opening up their homes, literally, to help care for people. In particular, Michigan's Chaldean community has stretched out their arms: they opened up Shenandoah County Club -- an Iraqi Christian community center right across the street from Temple Israel -- as a family reunification hub, and where Temple Israel held Shabbat services the day after the attack.
No matter what we learn over the coming days and weeks, everyone has the responsibility to call out antisemitism anywhere we see it. From the left, from the right, from groups we like and groups we don't.
