Team, it’s Mark.
Late last year, Donald Trump came after me. He called for my arrest and hanging. Over the following weeks and months, the Departments of Justice and Defense followed his lead. They tried to court-martial me, indict me, reduce my rank and pension, and silence two million veterans alongside me — and so far they’ve failed.
All for saying something the President didn’t like, I had to face down the full weight of the Executive Branch.
Now, I remember last year pretty clearly. I remember that pardoning the people who committed crimes on January 6th was one of the first things Donald Trump did as president. Favors for the people who stormed our Capitol, assaulted cops, and tried to overturn an election in his name.
Silencing veterans, but pardoning criminals. That’s what justice looks like under Trump.
Over the last several weeks, we’ve seen Trump and his allies try to create a $1.8 billion slush fund for those criminals. Both Republicans and Democrats pushed back on that, and eventually they backed down. But the word of this President, his White House, and his Department of Justice are next to worthless.
The fund might be done for now, but we need to make sure it’s gone for good. That means we can’t let up — not yet.
Thank you in advance,
Mark Kelly
