Reports reveal that the administration is planning a sweeping expansion of ICE detention by converting industrial warehouses into massive holding centers. The projected cost could reach $40–45 billion — an unprecedented detention buildout.
These warehouses weren’t built to humanely house people, but Trump wants to use them to cage thousands of people at a time. Civil rights advocates warn of overcrowding, medical neglect, and abuse if Congress doesn’t act to stop it.

This is a moral and fiscal outrage.
Forty billion dollars could fund housing, healthcare, disaster relief, and schools. Instead, Trump wants to pour it into barbed wire and concrete — expanding a detention system built on fear and family separation. Private prison corporations stand to profit handsomely from the cruelty, and hundreds of millions are already flowing into early contracts.
Congress holds the power of the purse. If they pull funding from ICE’s budget and demand hearings, they can expose the contracts and conditions before billions more are spent.
