Team,
Today is May Day.
A day born out of the long, hard struggles of working people who refused to accept exploitation as the price of a paycheck. The ones who fought for the eight-hour workday, for safer working conditions, and for the right to organize.
They didn’t ask for those things. They demanded them. And they sacrificed everything to win them.
Today, we honor their legacy and carry that fight forward.
On May Day and every day, I stand with workers. Will you add your name to this petition and join me in the fight for workers’ rights?
When UPS stole millions of dollars in wages from thousands of seasonal workers — forcing them to clock out and keep working, and docking them for lunch breaks they never took — I sued them.
When Amazon forced warehouse workers in Queens and Staten Island to work in unsafe conditions during the COVID pandemic, and then fired the workers who spoke up about it, I sued them.
And when Trump fired a key member of the National Labor Relations Board, leaving workers without federal protection, I led a coalition of 20 Attorneys General to demand her reinstatement in court.
Workers have always been able to count on this office to show up for them. That will never change.
And this work never stops. Powerful forces are always looking for new ways to tilt the system in their favor. They cut corners on safety, shortchange workers on pay, and disregard the protections workers have spent generations fighting for.
But I won’t stand by while any of that happens. I will continue to show up and fight for workers to have the safety and dignity they deserve.
In solidarity,
Letitia James
