Mona,
Fresh fruits and vegetables should not be a luxury reserved for families who can afford rising grocery prices.
Across the country, working families, seniors, immigrants, and low-income households are being squeezed by the cost of food, rent, healthcare, and utilities. Too many people are forced to choose cheaper, less nutritious options — not because they want to, but because Congress has failed to make healthy food affordable.
Representative Pramila Jayapal has introduced the Fresh Bucks for Fresh Produce Act, a commonsense bill that would create a USDA pilot program to help eligible families buy fruits and vegetables. Modeled on Seattle’s successful Fresh Bucks program, it would give households making 80 percent or less of their area median income $60 per month to spend on produce.
Tell Congress: Pass the Fresh Bucks for Fresh Produce Act and help working families afford the healthy food they need.

Families need help at the grocery store now. A targeted produce benefit can reduce hunger, improve health, support local grocers and farmers, and make sure kids, seniors, and working people can put fresh food on the table.
Seattle’s program has already shown that this approach can work. Participants experienced higher food security and ate fruits and vegetables more often. Congress should take that success nationwide instead of letting healthy food remain out of reach for millions of families.
At a time when food costs are straining households and politicians are threatening food assistance, lawmakers should be expanding support — not cutting it. No one should have to skip fresh produce because their paycheck does not stretch far enough.
Add your name now and demand Congress pass Representative Jayapal’s Fresh Bucks for Fresh Produce Act.
Thanks for everything you do.
