supported aws-sdk versions?

The main paperclip Readme seems to indicate that only the 1.3.x line of aws-sdk is supported for s3 storage, but that gem is now up to 1.7.1.  One key feature of the newer aws-sdk versions that I'd be interested in is the support for file streaming, especially on reads (introduced in 1.6.3).  I've tried upgrading to some newer versions of the aws-sdk gem but have ran into various issues.  I'm trying to determine if those issues stem from my usage of paperclip or if there's something inherently incompatible between paperclip and the newer aws-sdk builds.  

For what it's worth, I'm working with paperclip 2.7.4.

Has anyone had success running paperclip with aws-sdk 1.7.1?

AFAIK, there is no known work-around or fix for aws-sdk versions > 1.6.2

Thanks - I guess I didn't read far enough down that thread, but it definitely matches what I was seeing.
