method for uploading directly to S3?

Is there a recommended method for uploading directly to S3 and still maintaining as much paperclip functionality as possible? The examples I found all have one compromise or another. But I thought that this approach was all the rage. (I've been putting it off for a couple years but finally want to sit down and do it).
