Arts in Sacred Places Kick Off Party

Within the City of Austin, the need for spaces for artists to work, rehearse, and perform has reached critical levels over the past few years. The tremendous growth fueling the city’s rapidly growing economy has caused a dramatic increase in rents in the spaces that local artists have traditionally used for their work.
With the help of a new program from Partners for Sacred Places, Austin artists of all disciplines can now start to find creative homes within the unused spaces of sacred place facilities.
Austin's Arts in Sacred Places program is made possible by a three way partnership between the City of Austin Cultural Arts Division, Austin Creative Alliance, and Partners for Sacred Places.

The producers of the event are donating their time, the venue is donating the space and the artists are not charged to participate.

1973, West Virginia. Following a cave collapse, five coal miners struggle to survive the dwindling supply of oxygen, the lack of food and water, the unravelling sense of passing time, and, even more threatening, their own competing natures.
Brutally weaving through family histories, complicated friendships, crooked politics, childhood visions, audacious hopes, eerie dreams, criminal addictions, and fervent spirituality in this run-of-the-mill Appalachian community, BUTCHER HOLLER HERE WE COME is a descent into the male psyche-in-crisis where secret desires, carnal urges, and hidden memories come boiling to the surface in a primitive territory that mirrors the subliminal mind.

This elegant, semi-formal event also features folklore performances by Puerto Rican Folkloric Dance, salsa dancing with Orquesta Trabuko, handcraft artisans, and comida criolla for sale by Chago's Caribbean Cuisine.
