Hi,

It’s ultimate day today. Bring yourself, a friend, some rando, cleats, a light and a dark shirt, and discs if you have them.

It is also nearly the end of the school year. In my senior year of high school, we had a day during the last week where school started late for the seniors only. This was great except that it meant the juniors all came on time and parked in the senior lot. Well, this would not stand…as far as a small group of us were concerned. We decided to get there extra early, make pancakes and coffee on a camp stove and block the entrance to the senior lot. We were wearing pajamas and sunglasses. I had a robe on. There’s a chance that we became slightly drunk on power in that moment and made it so that some teachers had to drive an additional 50 yards to the main entrance to their lot. Well, this did not go over well with one Dr. Johnson, the principal. He came storming up to me with a fire in his eyes that he must have been able to see reflected back to him in my mirrored aviator sunglasses. He was screaming and spitting. The line that stuck with me was, “if you don’t knock this stupid sh*t off, we’re going to cancel your graduation!” I could not help laughing in his face at the idiocy of this empty threat. He had no power to cancel a graduation for a class of 400 because he had to drive for an extra thirty seconds. He stormed off and later apologized, kinda, at the bbq that afternoon.

So anyway, laugh at people in power is the TL:DR of this email.

See you tonight,
Ryan

Anyone got any extra men's size 10 - 11s cleats you wouldn't mind loaning for tomorrow's pickup?

Hi,

It’s ultimate day! Bring water, cleats, another pair of cleats for someone else, a light shirt, a dark shirt, and a disc if you have.

This week is your Denver Nuggets update week:

THEY’RE GOING TO THE NBA FINALS!!!
*Air horns**Raucous Applause**Mass Hysteria**Cats and dogs lying down together*

Game four was a doozy. Lebron was throwing up lob passes that somehow just went in the hoop by accident. Jokic was pulling the ball directly behind his head before throwing up the most trebuchet looking shot ever that somehow got nothing but net as the shot clock expired multiple times(!). The Lakers were up fifteen at halftime behind Lebron’s 31 points. Then, the Nuggets stormed back in the third to finish that frame up 5. The fourth was back and forth. Jokic bullied his way past the man made of crab meat, Anthony Davis, to score with under a minute left. On the final possession of the game, Lebron drove into the lane on Jamal Murray only to have Murray grab the ball with both hands. This led to a bad shot from Lebron that was blocked by Aaron Gordon at the buzzer. This completed the sweep of the Lakers at the hands of the Nuggets.

I ran outside and started screaming with joy. This sense of joy has hardly subsided in the subsequent two days. I’m so happy to be a Nuggets fan. That is a weird thing to say considering their history. Go Nuggets!

Nuggets. In. Four.

I asked ChatGPT to tell me about horizontal and vertical stacks in ultimate frisbee... in the style of the godfather:

In da realm of Ultimate Frisbee, ya got two formations vying for power: da horizontal stack and da vertical stack. Each holds its own tactical advantages, capisce? So let's break it down, my friend.

Da Horizontal Stack, see? It's like castin' a wide net. It spreads ya offensive players across the entire field, givin' ya a wicked range of attack. We're talkin' sideline-to-sideline action, openin' up them sweet horizontal throwing lanes. And that ain't all. With this setup, ya can isolate ya best cutters against their defenders, settin' up some intense one-on-one showdowns. If ya got some speed demons on ya team, they'll tear it up, no doubt.

Now, on to da Vertical Stack. This one's all about verticality, my friend. It's like reachin' for the sky. Ya see, this formation creates those perfect lanes for them deep cuts. It's synchronized, like a finely tuned orchestra. All them cutters workin' together, makin' moves up and down the field. And it ain't just 'bout the cuts, my friend. The vertical stack clears the way for them handlers, givin' 'em clean throwin' lanes and clear sightlines to deliver them accurate passes downfield. It's all 'bout the timing, my friend. That rhythmic flow that keeps the offense rollin'.

Now, in the end, which one ya choose depends on a lotta factors. It's like makin' a business decision, ya know? Consider the strengths of ya players, the defense they're up against, and the situation on the field. Sometimes, ya gotta mix it up, keep 'em guessin'. Ya use both formations strategically, exploitin' different areas of the field. That's how ya become the godfather of Ultimate Frisbee, my friend. Capisce?

Hi,

Have you ever moved? Of course you have. Did you enjoy it? Of course you didn’t! Moving is horrible. When moving, one has to confront every single thing they’ve accumulated and not purged over the course of their entire life. This is absolutely atrocious. Every time I move, I swear to myself that I will do absolutely everything in my power to never have to do it again. I also go through a brief period of believing in the merits of minimalism. This will fade and I will begin to frequent free boxes and thrift stores again, but right now I’m dreaming of the days in my life where I could fit everything I owned into my small pickup and head off into the sunset.

Anyway, let’s move our bodies this afternoon playing ultimate. Bring water, cleats, a light shirt, a dark shirt, and a disc or two.

Hi,

My nose is not clearing. In fact, I am fearing that the point of it clogging forever is nearing. So, I make up hot water with salt and goldenseal(ing), hoping this concoction will be the healing I’m needing. I stick the spout in one nostril, tilt my head and I’m feeling this feeling of movement of liquid. As it moves up in there the feeling is searing. My eyes, they are tearing. The goldenseal is clearing of microbes, bacteria and fungi, I’m told. This searing, this tearing is normal, I’m hearing. As this goes on though the drip out of the other side is not appearing. Where is the stuff going? It should be flowing, this much I am knowing. So I stop all the searing and tearing as I’m nearing the time I need to be clearing out to the place I do my careering. I think I should be blowing, then the nose will start flowing. I try this, not knowing that the passage is not going. The pain then in my ear starts to growing. I think I could be blowing just a little harder, knowing on some level I’m toying with my luck. The ear pain is now like when you’re flying and trying to get your ear to pop, but it refuses. So you’re crying and thinking that prying open your earhole might bring some relief to the undying sensation. It won’t and it doesn’t (not that I was trying). At this point I’m thinking that this decision was stinking. I’d go back in time and try none of this tinkering. Instead I’d be drinking some nice tea figuring that snot always passes.

I’m fine, but my ear hurts a little. Bring yourself, a light shirt, a dark shirt, cleats, water, one of those weird ear candles things, and some discs if you’ve got ‘em.

Hi,

Tomorrow (Wednesday) is frisbee day. Bring yourself, someone else, some discs, a beer (?), water (!), cleats, a light shirt, a dark shirt, and whatever else you think might need.

The Denver Nuggets are NBA champions!! They beat the Miami Heat 4-1 to win it all. I’ve written to y'all people who mostly don’t care about basketball enough already about it, so I’ll keep this short. YESSSSSSSSSS!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! My local sports team that I grew up rooting for is better than the other local sports teams that other people grew up rooting for!! Go Nuggets!!
