to PANTUG Announce
There will not be a PANTUG meeting this Wednesday June 9, 2010.

If anyone has anything to present for future meetings, let Drew or I know.

Let us know your thoughts on canceling meetings for the Summer.

Also, let us know your thoughts on the PANTUG server. As you know if
you've visited it lately, we haven't had time to do anything on the web
site for a long time. I've proposed either converting it to a basic
static site, with the two previous "portal" sites preserved as static
references, or just dropping the server altogether and moving all
content into the Google (or Linked-in?) group.

If you want to reply to this message, please do so only on the "General"
list as the "Announce" list will just bounce your reply.

Thanks,
JP

What sort of stuff do you want to do with the web site? Is it just
going to be a place to post meeting announcements or do you also want
it a place for us to use a forum fro your members? In all the groups
I have been in the forum part of it dies pretty quick when the group
gets over the novelty of it. The e-mail list always wins for
communication of problems and ideas.

My recommendation is to have "static" page with your meeting
announcements as well as e-mail list sign up page and a page on what
the group is all about, as well as a page with directions on getting
to the meeting location. The direction page should be printer
friendly. I would use Wordpress or Drupal to do the site that way
it's easy to update and you really don't need any html skill to make
or update a page.

We use Drupal for both the LOPSA-NJ (www.lopsanj.org) and the LUG/IP
(www.lugip.org) but we use it manly as a static website. If I had to
redo either site I would use Wordpress next time. The LOPSA-NJ site
does have an RSS aggregator page that is updated every few hours.

I hope this was informative and helpful,
