Summary: Scheduled PANTUG server down time
Affects: PANTUG web site and mailing lists
Schedule: 2010-04-14 ~ 4:30 PM to 11:30 PM EDT

Details:
As I just mentioned in the meeting notice, the PANTUG server lost a hard
drive from its mirror set a few weeks ago. Since that server hosts the
mailing lists, it's obviously still alive, but we're going to have to
down it to replace the failed drive.

Drew will down the server around 4:30 or so, and drive it to the
meeting. I'll bring the replacement drive, and we will swap it in and
start the rebuild while we meet. Drew will bring the server back up
once he gets it home.

Drats! I had planned to be hacking that very server throughout the meeting.
I've been looking forward to this for months. Now what am I to do?
Ughhhhhhhhh.

You're a pretty poor hacker if you can't hack it right before or after
the drive is replaced. ONSITE.

It just occurred to me that perhaps I should mention that this outage
went fine. We had a minor issue when the USB keyboards that were
available during the meeting didn't work, but we were able to SSH in
over a cross-over cable (thanks John) from my Mini9 and do the work.
The script I'd previously written worked well, and the data was synced
to the new drive in under an hour.
