    Dear Friends and Family,

Saturday, 25th May 2013, I had the honor of attending the annual Memorial
Day Remembrance Ceremony for the Vietnam War Veterans of Johnston High
School. This year they were able to dedicate a monument to the fallen.
There are 55 names on it. Each name was read aloud, a bell was struck and a
balloon released. And *Tejanos in Action* gave a 21-gun salute and played
    "Taps".

The Johnston alumni and community did a great job! The event was very
moving. The memorial itself is well done. It stands at the campus flagpole
    with benches all around.

But, something else that caught my heart were the blank sides of it. The
monument remembers those 55 that have died; and it remembers to save space
for those that WILL die. We are losing military veterans every single day.
    To action, and to age.

These men and women are people that have stepped forward and offered THEIR
lives to protect US, and our country, in the five forces of the United
    States of America.

Our country is blessed with many heroes. All are ready to risk themselves
for others. (Bless them for that.) But, most expect to be safe. Our
military is different. Our warriors sign up knowing that life is fragile.
Some of their enlistment paperwork is a "Last Will", and funeral wishes. So
they can step forward with a clear heart. Does any other calling require
    that of its newest members?

My Most Sincere Thanks go out to all our Veterans. Veterans of our wars,
"police actions", and cultural forgetfulness. I am a Navy "brat" and a
sister of the Air Force and the Army. I know a bit about the sacrifices,
wounds, and honor of our military families.

This Memorial Day is Monday, May 27th. Let us remember NOW to thank them at
every opportunity. Not just once or twice a year. For "tomorrow" will come.
And they too will be a name on a wall.

    With humble gratitude,
    Toni Rayner
