Happy News:
UPDATE: You may remember that on Wed 5/30/12 Eastside Memorial HS held its very First "Project Graduation" at the East Communities YMCA. Several High Schools in Austin have built a tradition of "Project Graduation" parties. They are intended to provide a fun and safe opportunity for our newest HS Graduates to celebrate with their friends. And it did. Our Grads had a very good time.
Thank You's:
I wish to thank some of the folks that made our event possible >> The entire "Family" of Anderson HS. The Students that held a basketball tournament to raise funds for OUR Grads' event. The people that donated. The Anderson PTA that matched those funds. The Anderson folks that mentored us and pointed our team toward vendors that could help us with activities and provisions. And, ALL of the volunteers (especially super-mom Robin Moten and dee-jay Meghan Buchanan) that planned, set-up, chaperoned, took-down, cleaned, etc. to ensure a Great Time for the Grads. God bless them, all. Thank you so very much!
Brag-Time:
Some of the non-Grad folks at the EMHS Project Graduation were activity vendors, a security officer, and YMCA personnel. They were somehow "tricked" into spending their mid-week, over-night hours "baby-sitting" a bunch of partying teenagers. These folks admitted to me that they had not been looking forward to this job. That sometimes kids can be a little ... obnoxious. And, they can really trash a place.
<<here is the Bragging>>
But not OUR Eastside Graduates.
We had 42 new EM Graduates with us at the YMCA. There were No arguments. No food fights. No over-turned equipment. Nothing bad at all.
While I sat at my station, I had strangers coming up to me to brag on our kids! Over and over again! At least 5 times. These adults were actually enjoying being there with us. Watching our young people just having fun. They each had to come tell me that OUR kids were so polite. So well-behaved. So KIND to everyone!
The PRIDE of the Eastside, indeed.
Joyful Be The Journey!
