Step 1: Download and install OBS

The first thing you need to do is to download and install OBS on your computer. You can get it from the official website: https://obsproject.com/. Choose the version that matches your operating system and follow the instructions to install it.

Step 2: Configure OBS settings

Once you have installed OBS, you need to configure some settings before you can start recording. Open OBS and go to the Settings menu. Here are some important settings you should check:

    • Output: This is where you can choose the quality, format, and location of your recordings. You can also enable advanced settings to customize the bitrate, encoder, and other options.
    • Audio: This is where you can choose the audio devices and sources you want to record. You can also adjust the volume and mute/unmute the audio.
    • Video: This is where you can choose the resolution, framerate, and scaling of your recordings. You can also enable filters and effects to enhance your video quality.
    • Hotkeys: This is where you can assign keyboard shortcuts to start/stop recording, pause/resume recording, switch scenes, and more.

You can also explore other settings such as General, Stream, Advanced, etc. to customize your OBS experience. When you are done with the settings, click Apply and OK to save them.

Step 3: Add sources to your scene

A scene is a collection of sources that you want to record or stream. A source can be anything that appears on your screen, such as your desktop, a window, a game, a webcam, an image, a text, etc. To add sources to your scene, follow these steps:

      • In the main OBS window, click on the + button under the Sources panel.
      • Select the type of source you want to add from the list. For example, if you want to record your entire screen, choose Display Capture. If you want to record a specific window, choose Window Capture. If you want to record a game, choose Game Capture.
      • Give a name to your source and click OK.
      • A new window will pop up where you can adjust the properties of your source. For example, you can choose which display or window or game you want to capture, crop or resize the source, apply filters or effects, etc.
      • Click OK when you are done with the properties.
      • You can repeat these steps to add more sources to your scene as needed. You can also reorder, resize, or delete the sources by using the buttons and handles in the Sources panel.

      Step 4: Start recording

Now that you have configured your settings and added your sources, you are ready to start recording. To do that, simply click on the Start Recording button in the main OBS window. You can also use the hotkey that you assigned in the Settings menu.

OBS will start capturing your screen and save the recording in the location that you specified in the Output settings. You can see the duration and size of your recording in the Status Bar at the bottom of the OBS window.

To stop recording, click on the Stop Recording button or use the hotkey. You can also pause and resume recording by using the buttons or hotkeys.

Step 5: View and edit your recordings

After you stop recording, you can view your recordings by going to the location that you specified in the Output settings. You can also access them by clicking on File > Show Recordings in the OBS menu.

You can play your recordings with any media player that supports the format that you chose in the Output settings. You can also edit your recordings with any video editing software that supports the format. For example, you can trim, crop
