I'd like to have the ability to REMOVE photos from being viewed by Google Earth.
Currently the only way to to this is to DELETE the photo then re-upload it.

At least this makes a change from all the posts complaining they can't see their photos on Google Earth :D
Seriously , I doubt enough users would want this feature to make it a worthwhile use of the site's resources.

One way to prevent it appearing on Google Earth is to not map it.

But seriously, why would you use a site where the whole point and purpose is to get photos on to Google Earth if you don't want your photos on Google Earth?

Because the whole purpose isn't to get photos on to Google Earth, perhaps?

Perhaps I should have used "primary purpose" instead of "whole purpose."

In any case, it almost sounds like locking something in a safe to make it readily accessible, or putting something in a trash can for safe keeping. Yes, you could do it, but why?

You might want to record your trip to show family & friends, but not the world (using your KML file). Yes, there are other sites available to do this but that then means uploading photos twice & keeping track of everything.

I'd agree that Google Earth is an important part of the reason why many people join Panoramio, and it's almost certainly how most people find out about it. But once here many users - especially those who use the forums - post other pictures that they may not want to get on to Google Earth, perhaps because they're located in areas that are already crowded, or perhaps because they don't think them a good representation of the area.

And sometimes pictures get into Google Earth by mistake. I once had a 3D picture get in that I'd assumed would be rejected by the review process. It wasn't, and as I didn't feel it made a useful contribution to its area I asked for it to be removed.

At the moment the only way to get a picture removed is to send an email to the team, and as they're quite busy enough reviewing pictures going in to Google Earth it would be useful for users to have a way to take them out again without having to bother a human.

I think that this option would be useful, I would use it to remove from GE several of my photos that were over the time accepted probably by a mistake. But I am not sure how many users would be interested in removing any of their photos in this way, so perhaps this is not something that is worthwhile using Panoramio resources for, as Galatas has already mentioned.

Can you do that with Picasa?

Dorian, using Picasa 3 to upload photos to your Picasa Web Album account (free) is very quick and easy once you get through the learning curve. The fastest way for me is to do batch upload for each "album" then delete the unwanted ones on line. You can also choose various photo upload sizes. After the upload, the "share" feature will allow you to e-mail the "invitation to view your albums" to friends and family using nothing other than your free Gmail account . The only thing is that there are no geo-tagging feature for Picasa web album. Picasa 3 is also a "mild" post-processing software. I use it for all my photos and then decide which ones to trash, to upload to Picasa Web Album or to Panoramio. This way photography is joy rather than hard work for me. I hope one day I can upload photos directly to Panoramio using the Picasa software version 4 or 5 (with geo-tag capability). David

Thanks for a thorough explanation. :) Picasa lets me choose the location of a photo exactly how Panoramio does. I thought that's what geo-tagging was. :?

Dorian, thanks for sharing the info. I did not know Picasa web album has geo-tag feature. I need to check it out. However, I have too many family photos and I have no plan to geo-tag them. My real wish is direct uploads from Picasa 3 to Panoramio with geo-tagging. David
