I would love an app that would upload from my new Droid directly to Panoramio. Android Gallery already uploads to gmail, facebook, picasas etc. directly from the OS. Google please add this feature!

Also another good feature would be an email address that you could send your image that would get posted to your account. Google already does this with Blogger etc. That would be a quick method to get this feature goin!

I'd prefer photographers to take their time and critically examine and assess their work on a larger screen before they upload their pictures.

Infortunately, I think it's too late. Now that there is an iPhone app, a Droid app can not be far behind.

To the OP: Post your best single photo from your droid. Compare it to any of my photos (except those part of the mobile phone camera comparison). My camera, which is cheap and costs less than your Droid, will still run rings around it.

Everyone wants to publish their photos to the world, but nobody cares if the world really wants to see them.

Austin, there is no need to worry about the GE blue square photo quality for the future. At the moment Google has already populated the whole Google Earth with its own millions of "street view photos". Many of these photos have better quality and clarity than cell phone shots. My gut feeling is that GE's blue squares will become more selective at higher altitudes. The IPhone & Droid direct uploads will be accepted but most likely displayed at only very low altitudes. I hope I am right, we'll see. David

OP, how about it? Here's a challenge from our man in Austin...are you going to leave this unanswered or settle it once and for all?

Everyone wants to publish their photos to the world, but nobody cares if the world really wants to see them.

I know I'm in the minority but I do care.

I am totally amazed with the quality of the photography in Panoramio and it is quite obvious that the imagery a person can take from a phone compared to a proper camera is inferior. That is not the issue with me.

I would like to use Panoramio to document locations for my own personal use not necessarily to get them published on Google Earth. My Droid will geotag that photo and I would like to upload it to Panoramio in one step so that later I can have a nice record with mapping of places.

I am sure that there are many other uses for Panoramio other than the pursuit of being included into the public space.

Once I have recorded the location I will break out my other camera gear to do some "proper" photography!

And that automatically makes it a candidate for publishing to the world. If it's geotagged and uploaded to Pano, it goes in the review queue.

Perhaps if one does not wish to be part of the review queue you upload with the tag "NOREVIEW" or perhaps you could flag your account so that the review is ignored. There are lots of ways to control content.

In the past, people would block GE review & upload by not mapping the photo until it had been passed over by by the reviewers. Now, mapping a photo later will put it in the review queue anyway, so a mechanism like this (to essentially say "do not upload to GE") will become more desireable by a number of users.

Several of my photos have just been accepted for google earth. They are not necessarily of the best quality, but they are photos of places a) of interest and b) that there are few photos of, so far. If you upload a photo of the Linoln Memorial - meh. Upload a photo of the historically important bridge over the darling at Wilcannia, and they accept it straight away. Because no-one else has done it yet.

My next project - visit every embassy and high commission in Canberra and snap a photo.

Makes no difference if there already one thousand photos of Wilcannia bridge , if a new photo meets the acceptance criteria it too will be accepted.
The reviewers have no idea how many previous photos of a subject there are. Do you think each reviewer has time to check whether or not similar photos exist ? If they wasted time doing so they would only review a handful of shots per day instead of thousands as they do now.

I don't think you've quite got the hang yet of how Panoramio/Google Earth works :D
Photos aren't added instantly to Google Earth. Occasionaly it may be only a few hours or a day , but it it is never instantaneous. Often there are delays and it can take much longer.
For instance , no photos were added to Google Earth during the month of November. It caused great concern among the members.

Sounds like a very worthy project. Please try to make the photos as good as you are able to , not just snaps.

My suggestion - snap a hundred photos of each. Then you can select a few that are better than most.
