how about a button for hide photo's on the map ?
so one moment you could nicely orientate where you are on the map see roads and cities etc .
and than click the button "show pictures" again. and choose the one you like.

right now the map has totally disapeared,
you see over 50 000 thumbnails spread out just everywhere.
no idea what to click , can't see the acurate map under it.
the countless thumbnails are covering the complete map , how would you conveniently find your exact location that you search ?
you can't. it is a struggle.

it's a total mess.
very unprofessional for such a big website.

Nobody is forcing you to use this website. no photos, but complaints, that´s the feedback other users are waiting for.

When you are talking about the Panoramio map, just click the your photos tab, you will notice there´s a map without even 1 photo so you can orientate as much as you like. In the other Google products you can toggle Panoramio photos off.

What map are you talking about?

If you are talking about the Panoramio map, the photos are the _whole purpose._  It makes your complaint as silly as complaining that a road map contains all those highways.
If you are talking about a different map (Google Earth, Google Maps, etc.), then 1) this is the wrong place to complain, and 2) there are ways to shut the photos off.

Thanks, Herman, that was a useful tip. I had stopped using the Panoramio world map (for searching and moving to certain places) exactly for the reason clubfun12 brought out. And it was already years ago - when there wasn't the tab for your own photos...

Nice to find that searching the places with the map is possible after all!

Based on my own experiences clubfun12 is on the right track. Sometimes the places and map names really can be badly shadowed by all the dozens or hundred photos there are on some area. On this kind of map based service that is not very good thing and could be easily corrected with one extra tab.

I can imagine that for some users the exact orienteering even with just their own photos on the map can still be a problem - if they have a lot of own photos on some particular area or city. That is the reason why clubfun12's idea still is worth considering.

Another thing is that if the photos hinder seeing the places and names on the map it would be user friendly to give a chance to use the most obvious method: Hide the photos ( only temporarily, of course :) mode. The Try to guess where you are or show your own photos only when searching village X, and when you find it turn on all the other user's photos again would not be very good or intuitive user interface design...

I´m sure you know my first reaction was about how the package was delivered. ;-)

Panoramio is all about workarounds. There are a possible 6 tabs when looking at the map. Starting at the world map there is popular, recent, indoor, places and your photos. The 6th tab appears when you click on "on the map" on someones photopage.

The popular one is overcrowded, but those others can be used to have a better map view.

The new team is well aware of this forum, so I take your remarks will be read by them.

Ok, thanks in advance ;)

Your comment about the amount of tabs was very reasonable. So I'd like to suggest again: not a new tab but a check box "Hide photos".

The natural place for it could be right after the present box "Also show photos not selected for Google Earth".
