Would it be possible to have a Google Maps icon when a photo on Panoramio is selected to be shown on Google Maps?

I know those photos come and go. The icon cal also be automatically removed when the Google Maps Team decide to no longer have that photo.

The suggestion goes in the line of more integration.

I look forward to hearing the arguments against (and in favour, if any) this suggestion.

Thanks in advance for the input.

I would like to know if any of my pictures are on Google Maps. I have never run across any. Google Maps is a place I very seldom go.  It would be nice to know if, for a time,  a picture was used there.

What's more, why do we have a Panoramio icon (light blue compass) below each photo? Shouldn't the icon be a Google Earth icon? It is pretty obvious the photo is on Panoramio, isn't it?

agree with that one. I don´t know about GM. Every mapped photo is visible on GM when you know where and how to look. Tag searching can make many photos visible, that are normally hidden. So, the question is, is it technically possible to have an icon for photos that are prominently visible on GM when all photo can be seen in GM in the first place?

Perhaps I don't know how and where to look to find all my GM selected photos (not joking). How do you do it? By going to the places you know you have taken photos?

I can find a lot of my photos on GM, but where I have taken more than one photo, only one photo appears. There are no "cluster-icons" on GM (at least, I can't find any)

FOUND IT!!!!
Open Google Maps.
Click on satellite (upper right) and check "photos"
On places, where there are photos placed, an icon or a thumbnail appears.
Click on it.
A small photo appears.
Click on that little photo and the photo becomes fullscreen.
Upper left all the photos appear as they do in the "look around" on Panoramio.

Good luck

when you open the option photos in GM you can put in tags in the left pane. as I have a unique tag for all my photos, hvbemmel, all my photos will be shown on the GM. The same goes m.m. of course when you have a tag somewhere, say church. All photos with that tag will show, but also those of other users using that tag, the other photos will be blended out. For the rest zooming in, big icons, little icons stays the same.

I don't know how may photos you have in Google Maps, but your gallery has received 189,342 views from Google Maps (9,663 in the last 30 days).

Btw, is it possible to have a picture mapped at GM but not at GE ?

If a photo is selected for GE, than it's obvious that it is mapped. So the mapped flag could directly be changed into the selected symbol.

Instead of adding a row of symbols, it could be better to have one symbol place with different kind of symbol designs:
- not mapped
- mapped, but still in review
- mapped, but not selected in GE
- selected for GE
- selected for GE and GM

An additional information which I would prefer under the previews, is showing the number of comments.

Best regards !
Matthias

Matthias,

The problem with your request is that nobody is quite sure how Google Maps works with Panoramio.  The same photo may be on GM this week, then not next week, then back again in 3 months.  It would be nice, but the communication between the different layers (GM vs Panoramio) is just too slow to keep up with the dynamic nature of GM.

At them moment the question is in what way the new GM will show our photos in the future. If you haven´t access to the new GM already you can apply for it http://maps.google.com/help/maps/helloworld/desktop/preview/
see also this thread.

Don´t forget to leave your suggestions in the new map preferably one suggestion at the time.

Adding to Tom:

Now, photos in Google Maps are searchable by tags. Even photos not selected for GE and photos not displayed in GM by default can be seen in GM if you have unique tag in the area. :-)

BTW, have you seen new version of Google Maps (beta)? Photos from Panoramio are much less prominent at map display and much less photos can be seen there.

Edit: Herman beats me
