A Victorian-style lamp post on Dover's Prince of Wales Pier:
The third in a sequence of three photos taken at different points along the Prince of Wales Pier looking landwards. This one shows the first stretch of some 250 yards (the pier is over 500 yards long).
The wooded cliffs on the lefthand side of the photo hide Dover's "Forgotten Fortress". Specifically, at this point, the
Drop Redoubt - part of extensive Napoleonic fortifications embedded into the top of the
Western Heights. Nearby is the
Court's Folly - a 200-year-old miniature castle hidden on the cliff face.
