These cows and their handlers march through Matten, Interlaken in traditional dress on summer evenings with their cowbells clanging in traditional Swiss style. I was sitting in the middle of a pedestrian crossing to get this shot - the guy behind me was concentrating so hard on his viewfinder that he got quite a shock when the cow on the left lumbered over and blew in his ear ;-)

Cows are fun -- they either run away, or they come as close as they dare to stare at you. I once had a small clump of yearlings staring at me through a fence. Three others farther away suddenly noticed they were missing something and came thundering up at full speed. They shouldered their way to the front panting and snorting ... and stared at me (that's the first photo). I was the big excitement of the day.

At this time I have no pictures of real, living cows to show, but I suppose these cow-shaped art works made from car/van wrecks are bit more unique than a dull picture of cows pasturing in a field...

Thank you Moderator! I hadn't quite finished before! Greetings, May

Great VKeith! Thanks for the idea! Pure chance, that I've seen it.

And since the genes of the famous Simmental from Switzerland is widely spread, I put at first the tradition of Swiss cows coming down from the alps
in autumn. See: http://www.ansi.okstate.edu/breeds/cattle/simmental/

This thread started with a poem. Here's another one.

"The Cow's Lament"

Though I've just given birth to a heifer,
And of milk & of pride I am full,
I am sad to relate
That my lacteal state
Was not brought about by a bull!

I have never been naughty, I swear it,
In spite of the calf that I've borne,
Like Farmer Brown's tractor
I'm Virgo Intacta
'Cause I've never had a bull by the horn.

How dreary the fields & the meadows,
The sheep yards are gloomy & grey,
And the one bit of fun
In the year's long run
Has by science been taken away!

I know that the farm is a business,
In which we must all pull our weight,
But I'd pull & I'd pull
For a strongly built bull
For this phony arrangement I hate!

You must not think that I'm jealous -
There are many things that a cow should not say,
But these land army tarts
Who handle our parts,
Still get their's the old-fashioned way!

Amazing wild cows. Originally imported in 1871 by Heurtin in the Amsterdam Island, the cattle is forsaken and became wild.
The story is interesting and invite us to googelise to know more on this strange case.
