When users enter the Panoramio forum they enter via the following link

http://www.panoramio.com/forum

Following that link there is a What's New!

Why is there no Official Message here regarding Panoramio closure?  Not important? or Google dont use or unfamiliar with their own forum?

Not even a link to Evan's Important Panoramio update!

I suspect they wanted to keep the upcoming change as low key as possible.
Maybe a mention in "Noteworthy" might have been in order.

The obvious reality is  Panoramio is dead, Next!
Seems like they could have better customer relations for a company like Google for "Customer Relations IS their CORE business!"  Any company in this business with this attitude is treading a tight rope. This attitude does not not engender customer loyalty, but customer antagonism!

The idea of a forum landing page was coming from the moderators, it´s something the product fora also have, we hoped that new users would have an easier access to, i.e., the language fora. Adam also thought this was a good idea.
The moderators have no rights there, so we can not alter something there and Adam is gone. Evan is visiting the moderator forum as often as he visits this forum so I doubt there will be any change there. I´m not under the impression that Evan has some affinity with Panoramio, he focussed on Views from the beginning and left the "vocal minority" (that´s us)  to Adam.

I´m sure more publicity will come when they feel like it, timing is everything, fist wait until the first wave of indignity has gone and then go on. O yes, I know all those management tricks too.

When new team (from Mountain Valley) had come to Panoramio, they showed (or pretended) some enthusiasm - Adam promised to provide more feedback, to revive the blog (in the end: there are only two posts from new team since summer 2013), he reorganized forum sections (many things merged together, rest archived) and introduced new forum landing page.

Looks like they are too much busy with their other shared and higher priority project - Views and Maps.
