Can anyone tell me why the names of Brussels' streets show up mostly in Dutch and not in French on Panoramio's maps? Brussels is officially a bilingual region, so street names have to be written in both French and Dutch. French also makes more sense since 90% of the city's population speaks French. Can Panoramio do anything about this?

Maybe it's better to call all the streetnames in Brussels in english. Beside it is the capital of Belgium it is also the capital of Europe. Recent studies showed also that the major population of Brussels speeks english in stead of french. This is alsoo a way to solve the problems between Flamish and Walonian problems

Well, English is not an official language in Belgium. Only French, Dutch and German are. And this is not a problem between Flemish and Walloons. Brussels is a region just like Flanders and Wallonia, but it is also the only bilingual region in Belgium. I'm just asking for this characteristic to be respected.

PS : Most of the times I know, or can guess, what is the translation in Dutch of the street names, but not always, so having the names in both languages is simply more practical.

Panoramio uses various sources for the mapping information, and solely acts to store and share photos.

You can report map corrections by following one of the links here:

Correction to my earlier post.

Street names are often given in French and Dutch in Bruxelles in the Panoramio mapping. I recently uploaded 4 photos and mapped them using the french street names which it found. If the street is long the two name variants may be far apart. The map used by Panoramio is very detailed and includes side street names.

I checked on GE, only the Dutch street names are given. What more, many side streets are not named.

Any explanation for this difference? I was using the geographic map as opposed to the street map. Does the information come from Google Maps?

Thanks Matthew for the link, I didn't notice this topic in the help section before. I'll check TeleAtlas' website for more information.

It seems that streets with a Dutch only name are the short ones, so this might actually be a problem of not having enough space to write both languages.

I checked Google Maps. At a moderately high level Bruxelles street names are in Dutch. But if zoom in to maximum detail the French versions are also available. Google Maps seems to have all the small side streets with names; this is not available in Google Earth.
