Hello everybody! I want to start my very first thread by saying that I'm stunned by all the gorgeous work that I've seen here. Just WOW.

OK, I want to take pics as well, but using a different approach. My Motorola ROKR E6. It features a 2.0 Mp camera with macro mode. It's very basic, I know, but I just think that it would be fun to work in a different way everyone's currently working.

So far I've found these tips:

http://www.imphotorepair.com/Phone_Camera_Tips.html

If anyone has one, I'd appreciate if you could post them here. Thank you.

Hi! Two tips are on my mind right now. One of them you may have read in the guide you referred to: use an image editor. Not just for some final touches but to make your photo look as good as possible. Even the more simple free editors let you adjust brightness, contrast, saturation etc.

My second tip: try to specialize yourself in wide-angle shots because built-in cameras usually cover a lot of ground compared to film or digital cameras (even point-and-shoot models). So I recommend making landscape-like photos.

Oh, and don't be afraid to try some of the "digital camera" tips (like the "rule of thirds").

I see, thank you, I've been using ACDSee Photo Editor to do some improvements on light adjustments. Thanks! I'll try to take some shots tomorrow :)

Hi ArcherIV,

Have a look at these photos by WirelessMonkey

All with mobile phones!!!

Seems to me the artist embraced the medium with emotion and left limitation behind

Happy shooting

I disagree with this, there is definitely a time and a place for showing photos taken with cellphone cameras, in fact the difficulty in using such cameras can highlight the qualities of the photographer.

More often than not I always have my cellphone with me, whereas my 8MP camera usually only comes with me when i know i'll be taking photos. So sometimes the cellphone camera is all i have.

Maybe you don't have your camera with you but the quality of the pictures that can be taken by your camera is utterly different with those which are taken with a cellphone camera.

(I should remark that I am noticed as anti cellphone between friends therefore it is normal for me to post such messages  )

Oh I agree that the quality is different, from a pixels on media point of view. But its about the photo being taken, the subject, the composition and the photographers intention that determines the the "quality" of the photo.

I don't buy the idea that only the best gear gives you the best results. Its how you use what you've got, and some people are very creative with their cellphone cameras.

@ArcherIV: Scroll down (until back to Topic) and ignore the rest.

(OT:)There is no need to start a flame here between mods and abusers ... nope?

Until 'ordinary' photographers really spent much money for 'digital backplanes', f.ex. for a hasselblad backplane(!), there already was the fight between analogue and digital photography ...

... after 'the rise of the pixels' (as I might call it) - now there is the discussion about cellphones ...

But if it exists? Why does even Zeiss event on it? I'll stay with my (nowadays) small 'mobile' and/or my Lomo-like-Snapshot-Caplio until the price gets more accommodated ... /OT)

(Back to T:)
- Check out for "The Gimp". As Open-Source tool it has all features you need to improve your pics using colours and filters (some now might whine about difficulty and so on and so forth ... those are mainly the Photoshop people [like me] - but I bought it - Gimp (for free) has everything).

- Read 'how-to' pages. Especially the ones about 'Color Correction', 'Sharpening', 'Resizing' and 'ISO Distortion' (I bet mainly all so-called Pros do such things without even thinking about it).

- And do not use too much filters - less is more.

If some other people find such things really interesting, maybe we should compact something like 'picture optimisation' into a several thread - if it does not exist yet ... (have not checked, yet ...)

Sincerely, GrumpyOldMan.

The forums are for discussion, and I like a good discussion as much as anyone else, and this one is a good one!

I agree with that SantoB ... but I would prefer to improve ArcherIV's skills in his main question about techniques? ... :-)

I saw some decent results with the cell phones. I admire you for learning how to shoot with one. I have one and can't figure out how to save and download results. If you have the passion for photography, shoot with what you've got! I've stored a few shots on mine that I took in locations I was not allowed to take a cameraand was grateful. Keep shooting with what you've got. Sorry I have no tips except remember where you put your instruction manual.

That's a great tip! I wonder where mine is? I took a photo with my phone once. It said "Do you want to email this?" I said "yes". I have no idea where it was sent, but it was gone. I even got charged for it on my bill! So much for that.

mobile phone cameras might not be at the level or quality of digital slr's, but it's bloody handy knowing you always have a camera on you, cause there are some shots you don't expect to stumble across, like this one

The quality might not be great, but whats the chance of me coming across another shot like that when ive got my slr with me?

As for tips, a bit of an old school one i picked up from old point and shoot 35mm, using polarising sunglases infront of the lens brings out definition in cloulds

but just keep shooting.

best to use when using your mobile phone for photography is it has OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) and manula controls.
