How to moderate groups with limited photo count per user

Many groups has rule: Only N photos per group member.
This trick allows quickly check number of photos by specific user in the group without extensive browsing the group (but you shall be carefull when you use it!)

- Go to the Group
- Go to the Members section
- Click Manage group members
... thubnails of users avatars has now "Remove" button overlay
- Click Remove (don't panic - you need to confirm removal after that!)
... message box appears with count of photos you are going to delete with this user!
- Click Cancel (or confirm deletition, if you think it is best solution)

How to insert clickable photo in group discussion (with link to your photo page):
http://www.panoramio.com/help/groups#group_discussions

but note:
it is essential to insert links with address starting with "www.panoramio.com" (no mw2, bareka, static, cache, bigcache etc...!)

photo page link shall be all always:
http://www.panoramio.com/photo/xxxxxx
where xxxxx shall be replaced with photo ID

photo thumbnail link shall be always one of:
http://www.panoramio.com/photos/thumbnail/xxxxxx.jpg
http://www.panoramio.com/photos/small/xxxxxx.jpg
http://www.panoramio.com/photos/medium/xxxxxx.jpg
http://www.panoramio.com/photos/original/xxxxxx.jpg

Links are listed in order from smallest (faster loading) to large (slowly loading). Again - xxxxxx is photo ID.

This was summary of important features.

And now complete step by step guide - how to post a thumbnail into the discussion:
Objects inserted into Panoramio Groups posts in fact consist of two links:

a) one for thumnail (displayed image) itself
b) one hyperlink - which opens when user click on the thumbnail. They need not to be the same!

So IMHO most effective and user friendly way how to post a link to Group discussion:

a) Open photo page and group discussion in separate tabs (or windows)
b) Copy address of photo page to clipboard (address bar with address shall be somewhere at the top of your internet browser window, it may appear only when you hover the mouse over upper area of browser). Address shall look like: http://www.panoramio.com/photo/123456.
c) Click insert image icon on discussion toolbar
d) In opened dialog: Paste link to photo page and edit it to get link in this style: http://www.panoramio.com/photos/thumbnail/xxxxxx.jpg (or you can use size "small", "medium" or "original" instead of "thumbnail"... I prefer small and medium).
xxxx is photo ID.
e) Click OK
f) Click inserted picture and on popup tool adjust the size of thumnail
g) Click "Change link" in popup tool
h) Paste link to photo page from clipboard into field "web address" (check the style again: http://www.panoramio.com/photo/xxxxx).

Done!

I prefere link to photo page - user can see the comments, map, title and can access full size view if he wants. Link to full size photo requires some knowledge about Panoramio URL format - user has to edit the address in address bar to get to the photo page. Not everybody knows this.

How to select photos for group by tags

Using widget "+Add photos" in the group page is extremly annoying for users with large galleries. Moreover, widget sometimes "stucks" or stops responding.

However, you can add photos to groups from your "classical" gallery and photo page. And you can get to this photo page by browsing your gallery (even by tags). Find your photo in gallery, open photo (ctrl+click to open photo in new tab), click Groups: "Add/Edit", resp. "Add this photo to groups", add to group (groups) by pressing Add beside selected groups names and then click "Done".

Note:
- here you have better pages navigation tools (and option to use address bar for quick jumps).
- you can add one photo into more groups

Abridged Email summary.

Don't like them?

Here is what to do;

To disable the emails in groups: go to Discussions --> My Membership --> no email. (You will also get other options you may like)
Do this for each group.

A tip; you can scroll down to the bottom of a abridged email summary, and click the direct link to the group discussions.

Please note that Panoramio and group discussions have separate notification systems. You must also be logged in to your Google account to see the discussions.

Update:

Note also this: you cannot change your email settings in the groups with no discussions entries (yet) - on Panoramio.
But you can visit Google Groups and change yout setting there.

 You can check number of photos in group by any user quite easy now:
http://panogroup.4fan.cz/

This tool generates a listing of group members and count with of the photos by each member in group.

Be patient with large groups. It can take some time, but definitely better than browsing group members widget and trying to delete them.

Hi!
I tried to insert funny symbols in the titles of my groups but it doesn't work (for example, I tried  "Alt+3 to make a heart). Example of cool stuff :
http://www.panoramio.com/group/14667
http://www.panoramio.com/group/8225
http://www.panoramio.com/group/24315

Of course, I can do a simple copy-paste of these symbols but I prefer to understand how can we do. Any idea?

Alt + code on numeric pad works fine with groups and inserts special symbols in the group name.

I know but I don't have numeric pad, just a laptop (and Alt+code doesn't work).
Thank you anyway, I will do it with copy-paste of these symbols.

OK, you can consult your laptop manufacturer documentation if there is any way how to emulate numeric keypad (perhaps there is a kind of key Fn switch for this).

This feature for inserting special symbols with its code entered by Alt+num is operating system feature, not the feature of the groups title edit box.

It's still a lot of hassle. It would be a lot easier if Panoramio would allow the "+Add photos" to select your pictures by tag and allow you to add several pictures with the same tag.
Why isn't this still not possible?

The "+Add photos" only works with recently uploaded pictures, because like you said, if you go back too far, the system bugs.
Adding by tag only allows for adding one at a time, and if you participate in a lot of groups, it's time consuming to catch the right group, so I don't bother anymore
