Tip
How to insert clickable photo in group discussion (with link to your photo page):
http://www.panoramio.com/help/groups#group_discussions
but note:
it is essential to insert links with address starting with "
www.panoramio.com"
(no mw2, bareka, static, cache, bigcache etc...!)
photo
page link shall be all always:
http://www.panoramio.com/photo/xxxxxx
where xxxxx shall be replaced with photo ID
photo
thumbnail link shall be always one of:
http://www.panoramio.com/photos/thumbnail/xxxxxx.jpg
http://www.panoramio.com/photos/small/xxxxxx.jpg
http://www.panoramio.com/photos/medium/xxxxxx.jpg
http://www.panoramio.com/photos/original/xxxxxx.jpg
Links are listed in order from smallest (faster loading) to large (slowly loading). Again - xxxxxx is photo ID.
This was summary of important features.
And now complete step by step guide - how to post a thumbnail into the discussion:
Objects inserted into Panoramio Groups posts in fact consist of two links:
a) one for thumnail (displayed image) itself
b) one hyperlink - which opens when user click on the thumbnail. They need not to be the same!
So IMHO most effective and user friendly way how to post a link to Group discussion:
a) Open photo page and group discussion in separate tabs (or windows)
b) Copy address of photo page to clipboard (address bar with address shall be somewhere at the top of your internet browser window, it may appear only when you hover the mouse over upper area of browser). Address shall look like:
http://www.panoramio.com/photo/123456.
c) Click insert image icon on discussion toolbar
d) In opened dialog: Paste link to photo page and
edit it to get link in this style:
http://www.panoramio.com/photos/thumbnail/xxxxxx.jpg (or you can use size "small", "medium" or "original" instead of "thumbnail"... I prefer small and medium).
xxxx is photo ID.
e) Click OK
f) Click inserted picture and on popup tool adjust the size of thumnail
g) Click "Change link" in popup tool
h) Paste link to photo page from clipboard into field "web address" (check the style again:
http://www.panoramio.com/photo/xxxxx).
Done!
I prefere link to photo page - user can see the comments, map, title and can access full size view if he wants. Link to full size photo requires some knowledge about Panoramio URL format - user has to edit the address in address bar to get to the photo page. Not everybody knows this.
