Hi Denise;
We are receiving many requests to join our group from folks with no u/w photographs.  So far we have been rejecting them.  I wonder if these folks just want to receive updates to view u/w photos?  Or are they planning to spam the collection?
Your thoughts on this?
cheers
Derek

Hi Derek.

I've been rejecting the spammers.  I do take the time to look at their accounts.  The men who only have a photo of themselves on their site get an outright rejection with no option to reapply.  Why on earth these guys think they are going to get a date with an underwater photographer is beyond me.

There's been a few folks that seem to be new to Panoramio and their accounts have less then 10 photos - with no underwater photographs.  I do reject those people but I send them a nice note inviting them to reapply when they have some underwater photographs to share.  I've not received any messages from these folks stating that they only wanted to be alerted to updates.  Should anyone actually put that in the request, then of course I would accept the request to join.

So far I have only banned one person, who after a few nice reminders to not post land photos - continued to do so (he never once posted an underwater photograph).  I just don't have the time to delete photographs that don't meet the basic definition of "underwater".

I've had to delete some aquarium shots as well, but not banned those useres.  :( To my knowledge there is only one aquarium shot in the collection, and that is one that I took myself when I had the opportunity to scuba dive *IN* the shark tank at the Denver Aquarium.

Whew!  being a moderator is a lot of work!  But I'm happy to see the community growing.  Thank you Derek for all of your contributions and help to get this group swimming.

Hi Everybody,

Great to see so many good underwater photos in one place! I've got a stash of photos that I will eventually put on Panoramio but it will takle a while. Unforutnately I've got some way to go before I can match the quality of some of the photos on show here (if only those fishes and critters would stand still! ;) ....), but at least it gives me some inspiration and encouragement to carry on.

By the way, so far every one of my uploaded underwater photos have been rejected for GE. I've seen from some of the discussions in some of the Panoramio forums that U/W photos were only recently considered for GE, but I've been unable to find any guidelines for U/W photos in GE. Can anyone shed some light on this as I've seen lots of photos that have similar subjects to mine that have been accepted and it would be nice to know whether it is likely to be accepted for GE before I post a photo and take great care to geotag it correctly?

Cheers,

Egil

Hello Egil.

Welcome to the Underwater Photography group.  We are thrilled with your high quality submission.

Have you tried asking for a second review?  Many of my underwater photographs are not picked up on the 1st round and I have to click on the link for "second review".  I've also noticed that I have a better chance of GE picking them up if the photos are not all linked to the exact same spot.  For the most part, we can never tell exactly where the dive site is, so it makes sense to sprinkle the shots around in the general location.

I hope these tips work - let us know if you see improvements or not with GE.

We look forward to seeing more of your fantastic work.

Cheers!
