Dear Denise and Derek, think it necessary to moderate the group to be included images of good quality by excluding those blurry, too dark, and the composition became unacceptable. I think it is right, through the group, giving a warning to those who prefer to keep them while having good pictures rather than publish them.

Hello Fabirzio;

Thank you for your idea regarding image quality.  I have had the same thoughts as you for some time now.

On one hand I would like to remove the "few" photos of poor quality (requires a judgement call), but at the same time I do not want to discourage new underwater photographers who are still working on their skills.  Right now I lean towards keeping all submissions.

I wonder what Denise, the owner of the group thinks?

regards

Thank you Fabirzio for starting the conversation on this important topic.

At this time, I think it is more important to build a community than to judge work.  Underwater photography is really hard.  The fish are moving, the light is dim, and for most people on Panoramio, they only get to practice underwater photography a few hours a year... or in a life time.

Good photography can move and inspire people.  I understand that some of the photos are less about making a visual statement and more about sharing the experience of exploring an alien world that so few people get to see.  If that helps to build the community, then I agree with Derek and support keeping even the not-so-good photos - as long as they meet the criteria of being underwater.  I'll even accept the ones that are half underwater and half above water ;)

I hope that Panoramio will at some point allow moderators to tag the "best" work in the same manner tht we are able do on our home pages.  In the meantime I try to highlight the exceptional work as "Featured Photographs" with the group avatar.

Anyone in the community can nominate at "Featured Photo" using this discussion board.

I look forward to more discussions on quality underwater photographs. (Hint: a strobe really helps!)

Thanks Denise for the timely response. Photographer for a long time and digital photography has opened up the opportunity to participate in many galleries visit from all over the world. For this in my post tried to explain the need by some to represent the best quality. There are many groups on Panoramio offering underwater photography with results counted on just enough for this opportunity to stand out for a higher level of quality. Perhaps you could better involve all professional photographers underwater photography. Best regards.

Thank you again Fabrizio for your idea.

There are not very many professional photographers on Panoramio.  When I do find exceptional photographs, I do invite the photographer to the group.   With over a million photographers on Panoramio, we can certainly use your help in inviting exceptional photographers to our group. :)

p.s. feel free to flood the home page with your high quality images.  There is no limit to how many photographs can be added.

Cheers!
