Starting from Thursday 22/12/2011 till next year at Thursday 12 /1/2012 at 11:59 pm

FOR PARTICIPATION: Follow the THREE steps below

STEP ONE | Designing the Entry obligatory

- Contest Aim: To design a travel postcard that is fully made by you.

- Rules of Step One: Below are the list of rules that qualify you to pass step one:

THERE ARE 6 RULES IN STEP ONE. Rules from 1 till 5 are obligatory. Rule 6 is optional.

1- Bring a photo for ONE of these places: Archeological and historical places (Baalbek, Pyramids, Maya, Tyre, Byblos or any historical place in your country...), famous touristic places, famous beaches, temples, Castles, famous Governmental Quarters (White House, Élysée Palace Buckingham Palace...) famous woods, Important parks, famous cities, Capitals, Famous place at your village, famous monuments (Eiffel tower, Statue of Liberty...), Touristic Islands, Famous Shops of Fashion (Jack&Jones, Veromoda, Fashion TV...) or other recognized touristic places.

2- Enhance The captured photo and edit it in a way that show it as an "extraordinary attractive" place, enhance the colors, remove some repulsive views from the photo if necessary, use smooth HDR or any other enhancing filter to your photo. Add your own touches to make us love it, feel wanna visit it! Its up to you in this part! Use your imagination and creativity

3- After choosing your selected/enhanced photo for the contest, add it to one of the presented Postcard templates OR do your own template if you find better ideas (We prefer that participant do their own postcard, or they can start from the provided templates and add their personal touches upon).

ATTENTION: The Photo should be placed on one side of the postcard. It is not allowed to placed the photo in a position that covers all the post card; the maximum size of the photo should not exceed 1/2 of that of the post card. PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THE SIZE OF THE PHOTO COMPARED TO THAT OF THE POST CARD! We will show you clear example below.

POSTCARDS TEMPLATES LINKS:

USEFUL PAPER PATTERNS LINKS: (we advise you to use them to customize your work especially in case you used one of the provided templates)

4- Now you should have finished your postcard personalized design and place the photo on one side of it, the fourth step is to add Extras. You need to add stamps and/or stickers to convince us that it is a real Travel postcard.

STAMPS EXAMPLES LINKS:

5- The fifth rule is easy, you need to type some few words that describe the touristic location. You can type a verse or famous sayings about this location, or some nice information that should be kept in memory. You can even write wishes if the postcard is devoted to a beloved person or a friend. You write these lines on the other half of the postcard next to the photo.

This step is graded on the type of the used font and the strength of the used words and how much they will emotionally provoke us!

  • We advise you to get Fonts from: dafont.com the world best website for excellent free fonts.

6- Rule six is optional (it is the only rule in step one that is optional BUT we recommend you to do it to add extra marks on the final score).

By now, you have finished the the Entry photo and the designing part is over, when you submit your entry, you should write a brief paragraph (5 to 10 lines Maximum on Microsoft Word) under your photo explaining some important facts about your touristic location. If you do this optional step you will get extra points to your score!

STEP TWO | Facebook EXTRAS  optional

Step Two is Optional! But will enable you to:

  • Get 3 extra points on your final score!

STEP THREE | Entry Submission obligatory

- This is the most important step and mistakes in it may lead to disqualifying the entry from the contest!

- Each member can submit THREE Entries to this contest: but each entry should be in a separate post! otherwise we have the rights to remove it from the contest.

4- In the fourth line put your entry photo through "insert image" option in the post editor on Panoramio

5- In the fifth line put the brief paragraph (5 to 10 lines Maximum on Microsoft Word) of rule 6 of STEP ONE. This part is not obligatory but will give you extra points to your final score.

SCORES DISTRIBUTION:

The Total Score is out of 20:
STEP ONE: 16/20 points
  • Rule 1: 2/20 points
  • Rule 2: 3/20 points
  • Rule 3: 5/20 points
  • Rule 4: 4/20 points
  • Rule 5: 2/20 points
  • Rule 6: + 1.5 points
STEP TWO: +3 points
  • +3 points are gained directly when the photo is uploaded on facebook. You will not gain +3 points if you don't type the facebook link when you submit your entry, even if you uploaded your photo on facebook. Simply because the committee can't check for each photo by searching the facebook, they need the link to press it, check then give the +3 points
STEP THREE: 4/20 points
  • Rule 1: 1/20 point
  • Rule 2: 1/20 point
  • Rule 3:  YOU WILL GET THE + 3 points of STEP TWO if you type the facebook link of your photo in the post of your entry
  • Rule 4: 2/20 point
  • Rule 5: YOU WILL GET THE +1.5 points from Rule 6 in STEP ONE

NB: Moderators can participate in this edition of the Contest but they will not be included in the contest committee. Unlike previous contests, there are no penalties on multiple submissions.

DON'T FORGET TO CHECK THE EXAMPLE BELOW IN THE FIRST COMMENT ON THIS POST!

Information about Baalbek: (city in the postcard)
Baalbek is a town in the Beqaa Valley of Lebanon, altitude 1,170 metres (3,840 ft), situated east of the Litani River. It is famous for its exquisitely detailed yet monumentally scaled temple ruins of the Roman period, when Baalbek, then known as Heliopolis, was one of the largest sanctuaries in the Empire. It is Lebanon's greatest Roman treasure, and it can be counted among the wonders of the ancient world, containing some of the largest and best preserved Roman ruins.

Somehow, I deleted the post, I will do it again.  hopefully it will work this time!
This rose was photographed at the Hamilton Botanical Gardens in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada last summer..  They have wonderful flower gardens there including a very colourful Rose Garden.  Unfortunately, I did not write down the name of this gorgeous specimen!  But it is pretty!

This photograph was taken at the Museum of Man and Civilization in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.  It is part of a Haida totem pole. A native group from British Columbia.  It is quite old and very very large. The piece shown is about 4 feet long and two feet high.  The entire totem pole is well over 50 feet tall. The museum is made up of exhibits and items belonging to Canada's Indigenous people as well as exhibits of cultures around the world.  It is a very interesting place to go and visit.

Now I know that this is not a travel post card but what the heck, I thought I would send you a little New Year's Post Card.  Welcoming in the New Year, 2012.  Hope it's a good one. Happy New Year everyone from Me and my dog Rosie.  The Card was made with a couple of programs. The main one was a scrap booking program called Digital Scrapbook Artist from Daisy Trail.  Lots of neat things you can do with this program and simple to use.

Information about Asen's Fortress: (picture in the postcard)

Asen's Fortress, identified by some researchers as Petrich, is a medieval fortress in the BulgarianRhodope Mountains, 2-3 km south of the town of Asenovgrad, on a high rocky ridge on the left bank of the Asenitsa River. The earliest archaeological findings date from the time of the Thracians, the area of the fortress being also inhabited during the Ancient Roman and Early Byzantine period. The fortress gained importance in the Middle Ages, first mentioned in the statute of the Bachkovo Monastery as Petrich in the 11th century. The fortress was conquered by the armies of the Third Crusade.

This is a post card I made from a collage of pictures taken at the Canadian War plane Heritage Museum in Hamilton, Ontario. It is a very interactive museum filled with a collection of war planes since the history of flight.  It has a very interesting assortment of air craft from all over the world.  There are also displays of war clothing and other bits and pieces.  The aircraft are the most interesting though.  You can even get up inside them.  The museum is entirely run by volunteers and you can watch them restore the old aircraft also.

Information about Plovdiv: (picture in the postcard)
This is a real Travel postcard I made from a collage of pictures taken at The Old Town of Plovdiv. Plovdiv's history spans some 6,000 years, with traces of a Neolithic settlement dating to roughly 4000 BC; it is one of the oldest cities in Europe. Known in the West for most of its history by the Greek name Philippoupolis. Plovdiv is host to economic and cultural events such as the International Fair Plovdiv, the international theatrical festival "A stage on a crossroad", the TV festival "The golden chest". There are many remains preserved from Antiquity such as the Ancient amphitheatre, Roman odeon, Roman Stadium, the archaeological complex Eirene and others.

Karlskrona is a naval city in south-eastern Sweden. The city is built on about 30 islands, being part of the Karlskrona archipelago which consists of about 1600 islands, islets and skerries. Thus the city is protected by a ring of large and small islands which is the background for the main island, Trossö, being chosen in 1680 by Karl XI as the location for his new naval port. Stortorget with the Leaf Fair and Church of the Holy Trinity, displayed on the photo, is situated at central Trossö. The term ‘Leaf Fair’ refers to an old tradition of decorating farms at midsummer with leaf and flowers, which were bought at this market. To-day all sorts of stuff is for sale at the Fair. The Church of the Holy Trinity was designed by Nikodemus Tessin jr. and opened in 1709 but not finished until 1750. Its design is based on the Pantheon in Rome and shelters the tomb of the Swedish naval hero admiral Hans Wachmeister. Karlskrona is a very exiting city to visit and deserves being on UNESCO’s prestige-filled World Heritage List.

Please Bear with us!
I would like to apologize for for slow replies and weak service for the past 10 days.
Reasons:
1- Internet troubles in many parts in Lebanon due to repairs carried on by the Government (the connection is weak even in the Research Platform I work in)
2- I'm very busy for preparing papers for visa application, supervising a masters II student at the Lab and other work
3- One of our moderators is in travel, other have school exams, and one is very busy at work!

As soon as we pass these troubles we will post Contest IV results on P&P group as well as on H.Q.P + Twitter and on all our sister groups (trying to make it up for you) and we will resume other activities and reply to posts and questions...

Thank you for understanding and sorry for inconvenience!

The results for the P&P Contest IV have to be RECALCULATED.

Whoops ........ am I excused for "senior moments"?

There are a few issues that were overlooked, including one disqualified entry and corrections to the scoring system.

These corrections will probably result in the same winners - but we shall see.
I feel it is only fair to adhere to the rules as Ali laid them out.

I sincerely apologize for this oversight and for the further delay.

Thank you  ................  Dave

 ******* CORRECTED RESULTS **************

NOTE:   This is an updated post of the Contest IV results.

Unfortunately BloominBlooms Aircraft Museum Card is no longer 2nd place as it was disqualified as her 4th entry – according to the rules.  She still made 2nd place however, with her Flower Garden card.

Scoring was completely recalculated based on the correct criteria established in the rules.

I sincerely apologize for these oversights.                         Thanks    - Dave
