Information about Asen's Fortress: (picture in the postcard)
Asen's Fortress, identified by some researchers as Petrich, is a medieval fortress in the BulgarianRhodope Mountains, 2-3 km south of the town of Asenovgrad, on a high rocky ridge on the left bank of the Asenitsa River. The earliest archaeological findings date from the time of the Thracians, the area of the fortress being also inhabited during the Ancient Roman and Early Byzantine period. The fortress gained importance in the Middle Ages, first mentioned in the statute of the Bachkovo Monastery as Petrich in the 11th century. The fortress was conquered by the armies of the Third Crusade.

Karlskrona is a naval city in south-eastern Sweden. The city is built on about 30 islands, being part of the Karlskrona archipelago which consists of about 1600 islands, islets and skerries. Thus the city is protected by a ring of large and small islands which is the background for the main island, Trossö, being chosen in 1680 by Karl XI as the location for his new naval port. Stortorget with the Leaf Fair and Church of the Holy Trinity, displayed on the photo, is situated at central Trossö. The term ‘Leaf Fair’ refers to an old tradition of decorating farms at midsummer with leaf and flowers, which were bought at this market. To-day all sorts of stuff is for sale at the Fair. The Church of the Holy Trinity was designed by Nikodemus Tessin jr. and opened in 1709 but not finished until 1750. Its design is based on the Pantheon in Rome and shelters the tomb of the Swedish naval hero admiral Hans Wachmeister. Karlskrona is a very exiting city to visit and deserves being on UNESCO’s prestige-filled World Heritage List.
