to Panic Disorder Sufferers
After attending an IME (independent medical exam), it was brought to
my attention that some folks - including me - who suffer from panic
attacks related to earlier or present day trauma or PTSD may suffer
from bipolar disorder. It was suggested that generalized anxiety and
panic attacks are a secondary symptom to the ACTUAL symptom which is
bipolar disorder brought upon by PTSD or other trauma.

It was suggested that Benzodiazepines and other related medications
may not be effective because the primary symptom is not being
treated. It was further suggested that for bipolar disorder, anti-
convulsive medication such as Abilify or Lamictal may be effective.

I am NOT a doctor and am not recommending you take ANY action not
specifically advised by a professional in the medical community but do
recommend you investigate this finding.

Remember to discuss with you medical professional how to properly ween
off any bensodiazepines or other medications you are taking, side
affects of new drugs and interactions between different types of
drugs.

May you be blessed.

Thanks very much for this.  As it happens, my counselor/nurse practitioner just yesterday decided to put me on Lamictal.  Abilify didn't do much, if anything, for me.

There is a great site that I know of that speaks of bipolar disorder with no mania, or even hypomania.  It speaks of anxiety/panic as being a manifestation of the manic phase.  I'll post it, if anybody is interested.

May you be blessed as well.
