The Problem: The club has a problem with two aspects of the "put and take" snowshoe hut we put up on the Twisted Klister area late each fall and take down in the spring. We believe we have worked out the foundation problem and that will be pre-installed. The second problem is doing the proper alterations on the canvas cover. We never have it up in good weather when markings can be made to guide the tailoring.
Our Solution: Is to put it up for a short time in the pre-season to make the markings. Since we are putting it up anyway, we have decided to make the event an early fall camp over. We plan to take on all the gear to set up the hut at 1 PM on the afternoon of Friday October 5th. We can carry in personal gear as well. We plan to set up the hut and then make dinner for the participants. If you desire you can camp over night either with your persional tent or space permitting in the hut. There will be breakfast in the morning (Oct 6) and then we'll take down the hut Saturday morning. As stated above we can carry gear in if it is there to be loaded at 1 PM. Given our pertmit system with the Forest Service, folks will have to walk in, but that is less than a mile from the bottom of Twisted Klister and roughly a half mile from the top. If you want to leave after dinner (you should also bring
a light) or cannot show up until the next morning, that is great as well. In order to plan for dinner and breakfast, I will need some idea of the participants so please RSVP to Whitefish48@ Yahoo.com. so I can make the estimate. You are all invited. |
