Dear Colleagues, you might find useful the message below from a nurse
who helps at COTS. This message was dated 4/29. John
We need to avoid panic and pursue cleanliness. The media is out of
control with this flu scare. Any MIC community members with high
fever, sore throat, cough, chills and total body aches can be
assessed at the health center or by me. Symptomatic residents should
be supplied with a mask and separated from the general population
until improved. The majority of people will be fine if they take care
of themselves. No residents at MIC have reported flu symptoms as of
today. We posted cleanliness and viral precautions in the rest rooms
at MIC.i will bring a flu screening tool to the center tomorrow.
Employees with flu symptoms need to stay home.
We are taking samples at the health center of patients that present
with any of the above symptoms and should be able to tell if the "flu"
is in our community shortly.
Please remind folks that the number of people affected by swine flu so
far is a statistical zero compared to the number of people in the
world plagued with hunger, diabetes, tobacco related disease and HIV.
