I'm new to the system, so please excuse if this sounds obvious.
Panda's current focus seems to be around upload and transcode vs. a
full featured video content management system. i.e. APIs to set and
get video asset metadata, create playlists, manage players, associate
players with playlists.
Is that correct observation?

Hi, AkashPai.

It's about correct observation that our focus is on uploading and encoding, but we are open to suggestions if there  are any cms related features worth integrating to Panda.

One example we did recently was a feature to let admin to choose/change clipping of screen capture/thumbnails, as it made more sense to let Panda to handle as part of encoding.

Thanks.

Yes, I think concentrating on video and how it's processed is important, anything else is up to the implementer to build into their own app I think.

Perhaps features like a GUI for creating and managing encoding profiles would be a worthy addition for example.

Akash and Jay,

Adding a GUI for managing the encoding process is certainly something
that's desirable. We'll get to it eventually, but it would be a
perfect feature for development in a fork if someone was so inclined
since it doesn't really overlap with the rest of the codebase.

Akash, your observation is correct. As Jay says, Panda should be kept
as simple as possible, doing what it does well. If you want a video
CMS with specific functionality I'd recommend building it as a
separate application around panda. With this in mind all the features
of Panda really should be available through an API. Adding an API for
the clipping changing code we added recently is an obvious example.

Hi bbrads.

We don't have "view count" functionality, but it is on our "wish list". I haven't started research about how to implement it, so any suggestions and ideas are welcome!!

Does Panda support any functionality that could be used to publish and
sort by "view count" - how many times a video has been viewed?
