As an experiment yesterday i uploaded a 10mb video to encoding.com and
the same video to my panda instance with the Flash HI profile.
The Panda video came back good quality (only slight quality loss) and
was 8mb in size.
The Encoding.com video came back perfect quality (no quality loss) and
was 2.9mb in size.
Obviously the encoding.com guys have spent a lot of time on their
service so this isn't meant to sounds like Panda bashing but
considering (i am 99% sure) they are both based on ffmpeg perhaps
something is up with the libraries in the current AMI?
Your thoughts would be welcome.
Cheers
Alex
Great to hear that you're using Panda successfully.
From the sounds of it Encoding.com has better suited ffmpeg command
setup, and there's no reason why we can't achieve this with Panda.
I think it's worth us looking to the options Encoding.com are using
(as best we can infer from their config panel) and setup a similar
profile on Panda.
One of the things we're working on is a site where people can submit
ffmpeg commands and have them rated and tagged. There are a lot of
useful x264 options which can improve quality, but can be difficult to
full understand.
