Kernel for Pandaboard

Hello,
I am experimenting with ARM platform and try to understand ARM Platform a practical way. I am using Friendly ARM mini2440 board which comes with prebuilt linux imange and file system, which helps me to understand Linux and OS. I have make lots of changes, changed default kernel and wrote driver, c code and test it with various Electronics like driving servo motor fully controllded by PWM.
I ordered PandaBoard, it has arrived, i am so existed to make lots and lots of experiment and wants to explore OMAP. I researched and found Panda board supports Android and Ununtu as of now, does any one has experienced porting custom kernel on panda board? I have compiled linux 3.1 for friendly arm board.
please let me know if someone has already ported different kernel and using it?

Mainline Linux Kernel works out of the box on Pandaboard - so you can
use it as is
to start with.
