Dredging International of Panama, SA, which was awarded a $177
million contract for the widening and deepening of the entrance
to the Pacific side of the Canal, has completed the installation
of a dredger expected to carry out a large part of the work.

Executive chairman John Issa said: Ţs our first Central
American resort this figures prominently in our expansion
strategy in Latin America. Panama and Brazil are our top growth

Why I love Panama-Part I [3]
My rants against the policies of the government and the folly
of the governed is because I believe Panama could be a much
better place than it is today and I am increasingly concerned
that it is drifting more and more the way of my home country,
the U.S.A.. Highly in debt, corrupt and well on its way to
socialism. Don't get me wrong, I love America.
Scientist confirm NW Passage not viable for many years [4]
Well, at least this threat to the possibility of the Northwest
passage becoming a competitor to the canal is unlikely given
this reports from Scientific American. The multi-year sea ice
that is breaking up due to global warming is extremely dangerous
to shipping and can cut through a vessels hull like a knife
through butter. This makes it too risky for transport vessels in
the foreseeable future. Now we only have to worry about the
economic justification.
Trump Files Suit Against Lenders [5]
The recent financial turmoil has caused same major problems with
the Trump project in Chicago where he seeks to get an extension
of the $640 million dollar loan.
IMF and World Bank paint a bright future for Panama [6]
We often hear about these banking entities being involved in
high level projects in various countries but we don't know much
more than what is put out by their press releases or the news
media. So what really are these world banks and what is their
purpose?
Fishing dispute reported [7]
This photo is of my son Travis holding this 50 lb Amber-jack
caught while we were fishing this weekend off the island of
Ladronas. I thought this would be a good lead in for my post of
a reported conflict [8] between the indigenous of the Darian and
the commercial fishing fleetsthat are plundering their waters
just off the Pacific coast southeast of us.
Boquete road project spurs conflict [9]
The road between Boquete and David is starting to deteriorate
rapidly as construction traffic takes its heavy toll. Repairs of
pot holes have been spotty due to the shortage of asphalt in the
country. A plan has been touted for several years to increase
the road from two lanes to four and several meetings have been
held by various officials claiming that the project was funded
and would begin in 2008.
A sad state of affairs [10]
According to the study, 54.6 percent of Panamanians make
decisions based on personal interest rather than on principles
and mores, often disregarding what is commonly recognized as
correct behavior. 85.8 percent of those polled saying they no
longer trusted their fellow citizens, and 78 percent saying they
had little interest in seeking collective solutions to societal
issues.

I have heard a number of people say that as long as they focus
their marketing efforts on the rich, they will be immune to the
economic downturn. Well, you know things are bad when the
wealthy of Beverly Hills are taking their jewelery and other
precious possessions to the local Pawn shop.
S&P bond ranking upgrade "unlikely" for Panama [12]
Panama is unlikely to receive invest grade ranking in the next
few years as anticipated by various local analyst in recent
months. Why does it matter? "An ÅÊnvestment graderating is the
best that a country can receive inthe international rankings
that assess credit risks. It is awarded to nations with a low
risk of defaulting on its debt obligations, stability and
positive economic prospects.
Caribbean hotel bookings plunge as economy sags [13]
Hotel bookings in the Caribbean are plunging as financial
turbulence dashes vacation plans, and hoteliers and governments
are trying to ward off a deep slump by ramping up marketing
efforts and slashing prices. The big cruise operators, whose
ships ply the warm, azure waters of the Caribbean and upon which
many islands depend, have also warned of a slowdown in bookings
worldwide.
London & Regional start work old Howard base [14]
Here is an invitation to the beginning of work ceremony for
London& Regional's mega Project. It is certainly good news to
see that this project is still continuing even with the dark
clouds surrounding the world real estate markets.

A U.S. company has been licensed by scientists at Las Alamos to
build mini nuclear power plants that can provide electricity for
10-20,000homes. At $25 million each it comes to a bargain at
$250 a home and .10 a kWh. According to this article developers
in panama have requested information on them.

The Panama Canal had a So-So fiscal year but there are rough
seas ahead [17]
Container vessels dropped by 78 to 3554 transits and most of
this was in the latter part of the fiscal year as the recession
deepened. How much more container traffic decreases can we
expect? Judging from the Baltic Freight Index [18] dropping by
95% in recent months, indicate that it could be catastrophic.
