Any recent news on this border crossing?

When I was there 7 weeks ago, the crossing was still open to all traffic. However, since it is a remote crossing be aware of limited hours.  Also there was no potable water available to passers by due to a well contamination issue. Make sure to bring plenty of water.

hi anna,

we crossed end of 2012 and I would be surprised if they closed it, and why for cyclists?
right on the us-borderside was living The custom officer Tim, who gave all kind of confiscated food and let us camp in front of his house. I would bet he is still there and even if you don't meet him during office hours its worth to check if he is around.

if you take the the divide route you should get throug pie town, there is a great house open for hikers and bikers.
here my post about it:

and a bit more info on my friends blog:

good luck,
pablo

Hi Pablo,

I crossed a few years ago, too, but I heard somewhere or from someone that the post had closed, or at least that they weren't able to cross there when they tried, for some reason. So I'm just trying to get more recent information. I checked the New Mexico Immigration Authority website and they don't mention the El Berrendo post. They talk of another Antelope Wells crossing and so I wondered if it had been moved.

But Brant's info from seven weeks ago seems recent enough.

Cheers,

Anna

Oh, and I met Etienne a couple of times -- first in Huaraz and then in Cusco! Small world.
