Crossing from Colombia to Panama by boat or air

Hi All,

I have reviewed previously posted remarks on the crossing between these two countries. Most of the info is from Panama to Colombia and is a couple of years old. I found some good places to start in these previous postings but was wondering if anyone has done this recently.
Also, if I find current info on flying and current info on allowances for my bike I might fly instead and then visit the San Blas Islands separately with my boyfriend who is flying to meet me in Panama City. Does anyone see any advantage of doing the crossing by boat as opposed to flying if I still will be able to see the San Blas Islands anyway?
I will have a somewhat strict deadline to meet my boyfriend in Panama so I can't muck around with boat to boat to boat crossing but any other recent info on good direct boats to use would be great!
