from Ecuador to Peru

hi again :)

after my accident in Venezuela now all is well. One of the best frame builders (Agustin Hincape) in Colombia welded my bicycle and we are back on the road again together with a kitten ^.^

i am going to be in a small village during the new year and will be back on road by 5th of January. I am thinking of going to Ambato and Baños from Latacunga. And probably i will take the road to Puyo and will follow this side road and than take a dirt road to Cuenca from there probably i will follow the panamericana to Peru.

well i have been hearing really bad stories about safety - traffic and robbery. so i need some advise about nice and safe routes in Peru.I want to stay on the mountains but january to april are wettest months :(

Hello Elif;

I hope you are well wherever you are! I wanted to ask you how did it go for you over northern Perú at the end? From what I recall from couple of years ago, northern Perú was complicated. Did you at the end went over the mountain side or the coast side?

hi o'car,

i havent yet cycled in peru. i returned back to mexico to help my friends. new year i will fly back to ecuador and will take the mountain road probably. i have to do some reserch and study but check out the blog of martina (colorfish) and you can ask her because she passed all those places twice

Hi Elif;

Thanks for your reply and the info! I will check out Martina's blog to find out what's going up with that part of Perú. As I mentioned before all the info I have is somehow old and related to robberies at gunpoint with motorcycles. It would be nice to have an update on the situation right now. I will post it if I find something new.

wow! i have just seen this, sorry for the late answer.i just took the mountain road. ecuador part was almost unpaved and was hard with loaded bicycle from vilcabamba to zumba. once you enter peru it was wide and asphalt :) i crossed the border and the next town was naballe and i continue to san ignacio and jaen. and from jaen i continued to chacapoyas i can give you the exact route if you want :)

Don't worry for the late answer, I'm still in central Chile! will spend the winter here and then move north! I need to weld my frame and do other bicycle matters.  I just checked the map and seems nice to go over the towns you mention. It's sort of the road I had pictured to do. I hope everything is good over there!
