P.S.  Best place that I know of for bicycle parts in S.A. is Santiago, Chile.  But, shipping and customs (Aduana) always a problem.

Will it be better to just ship everything to my sister's and let her everything in one box and ship it so I only deal with customs once? Where is the ideal place to ship a parcel in Colombia? what about Ecuador?

I have no idea what to ask and no idea how to go about this.

Hello Deanster,

as far as bike parts are concerned you can find almost anything imaginable in Bogota, Colombia. Exceptions are Rohloff, Pinion and Schwalbe products as far as i know.

Cycling is the national sport of Colombia and in the big cities there are shitloads of high end bike shops around with costs close to Europe or the US and labor much cheaper.

Quito has a much more limited offer of quality bike parts and further south your options dwindle to close to zero.

Shipping to Colombia requires a lot of patience ( the last letter i received here from the USA took 3 days to reach Colombia and then another 6 weeks to arrive on my doorstep ) and import taxes may be steep.
