Dear PAN followers, in particular dear PAN 2012 participants,
as you noticed, after the successful PAN 2012 lab, this year the Sexual Predator Identification subtask will not take place. This is due to several reasons, mostly the stricter CLEF 2013 deadlines (that prevent us to look for newer data) and the more effort required to finish my PhD later this year. However, the Author Profiling task of this year PAN lab presents really interesting new challenges that might be of interest for last year Sexual Predator Identification subtask participants. In fact, the Author Profiling task within PAN 2013 focuses on social media documents (including conversations where there are adults pretending to be underaged) and asks the participants to determine author's age and gender.

I would like to invite you, therefore, to take a look at PAN website (if you have not done yet ;) ) http://pan.webis.de/, in particular to the Author Profile section, from where you can already download the training set (http://www.uni-weimar.de/medien/webis/research/events/pan-13/pan13-web/author-identification.html), as well as the timeline page, with particular benefits for Early Birds - March 1st. (http://www.uni-weimar.de/medien/webis/research/events/pan-13/pan13-web/about.html#timeline)

I wish you a successful PAN 2013 participation and hope to see many of you in Valencia as well.

Best wishes,
Giacomo

P.S.
Please notice that PAN will be the first lab to switch entirely to software submissions instead of run submissions. Among other benefits, this makes evaluation lab such as our much more sustainable. In this connection, the next (optional) deadline is March 1, 2013. If you submit a working prototype of your software by that time, it will be evaluated on a subset of the test data. This give you the benefit of being able to adjust your software before submitting it again no later than April 15, 2013.
