The group of Prof. Flek at the Mathematics and Informatics Department of University of Marburg is looking for a full-time PhD student (TVL E-13 100%) on misinformation analysis (and misinformation spreading analysis) in cell phone apps. The project foresees a development and testing of a prototype solution to identify, visualize and explain misinformation based on data from all common social media platforms and communication apps. The approach, developed for smartphone screens, will be based on a combination of machine learning methods and a usable online interface (API) that explains the decision criteria to users.

The successful applicant will have a university degree in Computer Science (Master degree or equivalent). Advanced programming skills, ideally also in Java/Android app development, are desired. Prior experience with online discussion analysis, neural network architectures, and natural language processing is welcome. Candidates should be motivated, reliable, creative, and able to pursue research projects both independently and in collaborations. Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English (C1 equivalent) are required, and a working knowledge of German (B2 equivalent) is preferred, as the project focuses on misinformation in the German language space.

We offer a diverse team with a start-up mentality in a stimulating international scientific environment at one of the oldest universities in Germany. Please send your application mentioning registration number fb12-Flek-wmz-2022 as a single PDF file to the Department of Mathematics and Informatics, lucie...@uni-marburg.de , latest by March 31, 2022.

Your application should include: Motivation letter of application (max. one page), CV incl. your education, work experience, language skills and other skills relevant for the position, degree certificate and transcripts of records (Master's degree diploma including grade transcripts for bachelor's and master's degrees), optionally also a list of publications and 1-3 reference letters or contact if available.
