AnywayI just recently got a new hard drive and realized I can't play DVD movies anymore. To make a long story short, I have 2 driver and utilities disks. The 2004 one has the dell media software that can get the dvd stuff going, but I already installed the new Drivers and utilities disk now called the Dell resource CD (2005-2007).
Dell Media Experience or Dell Media Centre comes with your laptop on a disc of its own or maybe on a drivers utility disc. For my inspiron 1300 the dell media experience came on a green disc with the title "For reinstalling Dell Inspiron Eurotools System Software" I am not a fan of dell media experience and dell media centre (one messes up outlook) however and don't tend to install these applications, I use intervideo windvd instead but you have to pay for it so if you find your disc.
Before installing xp I recommend you downloading the following service pack and drivers or download on another computer while installing and either way make sure to save to a cd/dvd/ or usb flash drive or external harddrive:
